Default Best tires all around driving

I am in need of some good tires that will help me to get good traction in a strait line but will not take away the fun of taking turns. I have a 05 z51 with mild cam and exaust makes 420 hp and the hanooks on it now spin very badly in tempatures below 65 degrees. I was looking at getting the toyo r888 in 305 30 19 is this a good choice. I am used to running drag radials all the time on my Cobra but the vette is driven more and don't want to have to worry about getting around in the rain if I was to get caught in a shower. Also who has the best price on these tires?

I've had the best luck with Nitto's. But, the INVO's I have on my C6 now I cannot give you too much of a cold weather report since the coldest they've seen has been the low 40's and that was only for a day or two. However, they are good in the rain, which down here is important. I had 555's on my C5 and ran them all year until & sold the car. They were excellent.

The Invo's are excellent tires at or below 400 rwhp, I would think the Hankooks would give similar performance to them so a softer tire with good wet traction would be in order...Bridgestone RE-11 is your tire. Run them in stock sizes, you do not need to oversize with these.
I started with Invo's and they were great at 400 rwhp, recently replaced them with the Bridgestones and they exceeded my expectations in wet and dry performance/traction..My car has over 500 rwhp

How is the traction from a dead stop? Any 60ft times? Also is your car an auto? Who has the best price on those tires?

You are really going to have to go with an R Compound, or close to it. While I have enjoyed the Michelin PS2s my next set will be 888s.

Traction with a street tire from a dead stop at my power level is never going to be good, however, instead of immediately pegging the rev limiter in first the RPM's go up much slower as I'm spinning. When I shift to 2nd I lift and the tires totally hook in normal weather conditions. This example is without heating the tires up before hand. My car is an manual MN6 as well.

My 60 ft times are not good, never have been. I do not track the car enough plus it is my DD so I usually launch just above idle to try and keep from bogging. My car needs a drag radial like anyone else serious about a 60 ft and 1/4 mile time slip.

I searched like crazy, in the end, Tire Rack had the best price when delivery was calculated in. They gave outstanding service and I had the tires in like 3 day's even ordering them on a Friday if I recall..

I have searched for tires, and this is probably the best option for the most aggressive tire for daily driving and reasonable on the wallet.

It is difficult to find a real deal on tires, usually tire rack wins on price.

Bridgestone RE-11, Hankook Ventus R-S3, Yokohama Advan Sport and Khumo XS are what you should look at.

All have brutal traction for a street tire but don't expect 20k+ miles out of them. They're max performance.

Of those the R-S3 and XS should have the best dry traction.

At 600rwhp my 345/30/19 Khumo XS will hold 2nd gear at 40mph when warm. Incredibly impressive for a street tire. It makes me sad that they don't offer the 345 size anymore

maybe others can comment since your three items are: rain, below 65 degrees F., and 420 hp (presume rwhp). I like the comments above but I might also ask luke what he thought at tirerack.

R888's are a pretty good tire if the temps don't drop below 50 degrees. But they need to be warmed up for best traction, 145 degrees and then they stick like glue. Down side is maybe 5000 miles a set. In the rain you have to be careful though, they work but once they break loose that is all she wrote.

Those aren't going to hold much power at all. If you're looking at Michelin you need to look at the Super Sports. Don't be fooled by the 30k mile guarantee on the super sports though. That's only for cars that can rotate tires. On the vette the guarantee is 15k miles.

I've been looking at the RE-11 and the Pilot Super Sports. The R888's would be the first choice except that I need to be able to store the car over the winter. You can't have race rubber on a stored car in the garage when it regularly hits ZERO degrees or less. Bummer.
As for the SS, they make a size that fits on the 18x8.5 front rim but not for the 19x10 rear rim. Has anyone tried an oversized SS tire for the stock rear rim?

May be true but he is also looking for a tire that is good below 65 degrees and in the rain!!

I agree! I have an '08 with Z51 and MN6. Excellent traction in wet conditions. Good tread life as well.

Any summer tire will lose grip below 65. Just the way it is. The R888 is a competition tire which will provide much more grip then the street tires that others recommended. They held pretty good in 2nd gear at about 570rwhp when warm. The downside is they wear out fast. I've driven them in rain several times but I was always very cautious.

Either the Michelin A/S (run flat) or Continential extreme contact dsw (non-runflat) fit the weather requirements.
