Default C6 won't crank or start

Lately I have only been driving my c6 about once a week. I drove it to work yesterday ( about 20 minutes each way) and everything was normal. Then this morning I went to start it up and the electronics come on but the engine doesn't even try to turn over. My voltage (Optima red top) shows 11.8 volts. I tried jumping it but it didn't help. There is an engine light on but that my be because the engine didn't start.

I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer butch that didn't help. I also checked for codes, but there aren't any. I just dropped the battery off at a shop to test it and see if that is the issue.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks, Charley

The car is a 2008 ls3 (no dry sump). And the battery was new in march 2013.

The battery is low from a lack of use. The RED top should charge okay but make sure you use the correct charger.

Have you tried a booster pack or jump start?

Here is the STARTER circuit for a C6. You can jump around the THEFT DETERRENT Relay and see if its a security issue preventing it from starting.

it was simply that the battery charge was too low. That is a little strange because I just drove the car to work yesterday..... But I got the battery charged and tested and the battery tests fine and now the car starts.

Thanks for the help,
Charley

I'm not convinced that you have found the problem yet! Just covered it up with fresh charge. Maybe something left on or plugged in

If I only drove mine once a week it would be deader than a hammer without a tender. That being said I had 2 bad red tops in 4 years.

On our 2005 A4 not cranking but relay clicking were the rear harness grounds not letting the ECM know the PNP (park neutral position).

Interesting - I have a '12 and I've gone 2 weeks without driving it with absolutely no issues about it craning right up on the first touch of the start button.

The Optima Red tops used to be AWESOME batteries, but several years ago (2009/2010 if i remember) they moved all of their manufacturing to Mexico and their battery quality has become absolute garbage. I highly recommend swapping that Optima out for something else.
