Similar issue on my 07 auto
I have a 2007 Z-51 6sp auto, with 66,500 miles that recently has developed a metallic like buzzing sound. Thought it was a loose exhaust, which was brazed to correct. Upon further undercar inspection the sound seemed to be coming from the front of the transaxle. The buzz seems louder when in gear at idle, and cannot be heard when moving. Local Chevy dealer looked at it and says torque tube bearings ($2,500). Has anybody had a similar issue and if so did the torque tube replacement resolve it?

Of the three Corvettes I have owned two of them (C4 and C6) had a whine from the back that sounds like gear noise. Both occurred at highway speeds when lightly loading the drive train or coasting. On my current 2007 automatic coupe with 58K miles it is most noticeable at about 60-65 MPH. Seems like this might be a somewhat common maybe due to the rear transmission and open rear hatch design and being so close to the driver. However this sounds different from your noise. Noise not moving would worry me.

Are you saying the whining noise occurs when you are not driving?
if so , I would look first to the belt tensioner ( top passenger side of engine ) to be the culprit --- very common for the bearing inside the pulley to fail...
