Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP 19/20 Tire Wear/Life??
Hi,
Looking to purchase tires in 19/20 combo and could wait for the PSS ZP to get back in stock if needed (hopefully in 2015...)
So, I have a question...
The Pilot PS2 ZP came with a tread depth of 9.5/32" (Front & Rear) and the PSS ZP comes with 7.4/32" (Front) and 7.8/32" (Rear). However, the PSS ZP has a UTQG of 300 while the PS2 ZP only had a UTQG of 220. I'm comparing UTQG here because it's within the same brand.
Q: I realize the compound likely has improved but with less tread depth will the PSS ZP really last longer?
Sorry if this is an ignorant question...

Your question is not ignorant and who cares what others say. I wish I could answer your question I could not find any 305/30/19 sizes in stock for the Super Sports. I ended up going with another tire brand.

The PSS are tread wear warrantied for 30K front, 15K backs on the vet.
The PS2 is thread wear warrantied for 20 front, 10K back instead on the vet.
If you road course the car hard enough, your going to burn either set up around 15K, but with the PSS, better dry grip, and you only have to buy a new set of backs to get to the 30K point.
So grip wise, the PSS and use the tread wear warrenty to your advantage.

My daily freeway driven ZR1 got 25k on the front PS2 ZP OEM tires. The rears look like they will certainly approach 35k in life. I would expect the new PSS ZPs to be equal in life to the PS2s. I have PSS ZPs on the front now.
