Default torque tube

Hi All, Just had my C6 2008 base coupe in for its 85000km service. I began to notice a rattling coming from the underside about mid car somewhere last summer. I had the mechanic check to see what it was and he told me the noise is from the torque tube. He quoted me a price of approx $3000 to fix.($1500 for parts and $1500 for labour). This was a GM dealership. Anyone out there know a shop that has done this repair and at a reasonable price? I also get a discount on the parts as a retired GMer

This is why I hate dealers.

Here's the parts to rebuild the torque tube:
Bearings:
2 x Timken 9108PP
1 x Timken 9107PP
$150 total

Bearing "slinger", GM Part number 12456208
$6

2 x flex joints, Lemforder brand
BMW part number 26111227410
http://www.europartimports.com/catal...roducts_id=285
$112 total

Yeah.. not $1500 in parts.

He's probably quoting just replacing the whole thing instead of actually fixing it.

There is a ton of stuff that has to be removed before a mechanic can even start working on the TT. Rear suspension, diff, tranny all have to come out.

Are you telling Schpenexel that???
He's well versed in the operation - I'm sure he can do the procedure from muscle memory alone.

Haha, I'm pretty close. I'm getting pretty decent at it unfortunately. I hope that doesn't continue!

Hey OP,
if you fill out your location in your profile you might have better luck asking about shops near you that can help. As it is, no one has any idea where in the world you are.

Just a suggestion...
