Default Overheating - What Coolant Fan Wiring?

After a cam install for my c6 A6 heat started reaching 230 with AC on at traffic. On highway, no issues.

I changed the thermostat and coolant fluid, cleaned the radiator etc. slight improvement but still same problem.

I plan to tune the fan to operate faster but, I am told the stock wiring will not take the load.

What wiring options are available. I searched different vendors but no luck.

Are you sure the fan is running at all?

You have another problem. Something isn't right after that install.

A cam replacement alone would/should not cause overheating. If is OK on the highway but not in traffic sounds like the fan isn't working. Possibly the water pump is ready to give up.

My first thought is air trapped in the cooling system.

With coolant drain and fill, possible air bubble in system? Not unheard of, and relatively common.

Here is what you need to do to ensure your fan is truly running --- turn the AC on with the recirculate button depressed ( should glow yellow ) ... that will activate the fan. If the fan is working correctly ---

clean the radiator -- that includes the front, back and in between the condenser and radiator ... our C6's are like little hoover road cleaners.. if it is on the road, it will be sucked up ... if clear, then ....

check your fill cap ... pressure test this cap. I have seen this cap be the cause of overheating ...

If the fill cap is sealing correctly, flush the system to remove all air pockets.

it the flush does not correct the problem, look for any hoses that are collapsing ...

and if that is not the case, replace the thermostat .....

still not corrected, waterpump time.

I am afraid that I have done all those at different intervals.

How do I check water pump. I do not want to go and change it immediately.

As the heat goes down on highway, I am still thinking of the fan speed. Are there kits to change wiring for something that can take new tune load? (To have fan run faster)

Who tuned the car? Can you tell us what the fan speed is at 220 deg?

When I checked it was 200 deg and about 91 speed.

Any information about better wires for the fan in order to tune it for higher speed?

Check this connection which is on the fan shroud. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-come-on.html

I burned the connector up and replaced and it burned up again. Sometimes the fan was running very slow or not at all. I cut the connector out and used some butt connetors, soldered and heat shrunk the wires. Been running fine for three years now.

Thanks. This helps.

I understand there are three wires. Do I just cut the connector and re-connect the wires directly? One to one?

Was your fan reprogrammed for higher speed?
