Default 05 C6 solenoid 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 transmission replacement

Okay so I'm going to attempt to explain how I did this and hopefully it will help someone else in the future with this problem.

Last night I posted to the forum asking if anyone knew of a thread on how to replace the shift solenoids on on the transmission. No one knew of any so I tore into this evening and accomplished it.

So this is a 2005 C6 Z51 A6 corvette. More or less should be the same approach as these transmission for a C6 base model should be the same.

1. Nothing new here. I jacked the care up high enough to give me room to move about underneath.

2. Loosened the drain bolt. Drained the the fluid.

3. Took all bolts holding the pan on, off (had to jack the trans up a little to maneuver the pan out between the exhaust.

4. Once the pan was out, I did the normal procedure here. Pulled and replaced the filter. Removed old and replaced with new gasket.

5. Now looking up at the transmission from passengers rear tire...you'll see two square solenoids (pictures 1 and 2 are what they look like before going in...with part number). From closest to the tire going towards the driver side....solenoid 1-2 followed by 2-3 (picture 3) . 3-4 is towards the front of the transmission; towards the front of the car sitting directly under the outer edge of the filter (picture 4).

6. To remove these solenoids, they are held in with a retaining pin. Simply pull this out with needle nose plyers (picture 5).

7. Replace with new solenoid.

8. Replace retaining pin

9. Re install pan with new gasket and filter.

10. Pump about 3.5 quarts of fluid in. (Don't forget to replace drain plug)

11. Start car and let it warm up to operating temperature.

12. Remove drain plug. Pump more fluid in until it starts to run out the drain hole. Replace drain plug.

13. Lower car...and take it out for a spin!

I can tell you that this solved many issues for me! I originally did this because I was getting hard shifting from 1-2. However, my computer was reading error code "P0976 2-3 Shift Solenoid (SS) Control Circuit Low Voltage TCM" being that these are $16.99 a piece. I replaced all three. And what a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE IN MY TRANSMISSION! Feels like literally a brand new transmission! These solenoids due much more than just tell the TCM when to shift. They control fluid pressure also. So total cost:

Gasket and filter: $19.99
5 quarts of dextron VI at $6.48= $32.40
Solenoids 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 at $16.99=$50.97
Total=$101.36

Hope this helps!

2005 Corvette came with an A4 (4L65E) transmission, not the A6 (6L80E).

Best place to buy shift solenoids for 2006 Corvette seems no one has them in stock or they don't know what I'm talking about
