You don't need me to tell you, that's plain dangerous. Lol

If you can try to borrow some common 275's and see how you do. I think you'll be fine but better to try first of you can.

I understand that the 275/40 would be the best bet at the track, but does all this apply to a "roll racing" car as well?

I will be buying a set of 275/40/17 for the track for sure.

I know. That's why I said "gingerly". Lol! Haven't done any racing yet. No point with street tires.

I appreciate the advice Joe. Don't think there are any local that I can try, just have to bite the bullet and try a set.

Generally yes for NA cars. See my linked thread above for the dyno sheet that shows why.

Is your car a manual or auto and what rear gears do you have? How fast have you ever run personally in any car?

Just got done reading it actually, what does 4th gear wrap out at for you? 140mph? 7k rpm?

Manual. 3:42. My best is 10.12@133 in my last car. Chased the 9 sec slip for a while, but never quite got there. I suppose I sounded new to the game with my tire questions, but that's not the case. Just new to racing a c6, although I've owned 3, and most of my cars have been automatics, so there are adjustments to be made, both in driving, and thought process regarding the setup. Much cheaper to learn from people that have been there.

About 138 at 7000 from memory. We can watch...

I thought you had some track time.

To be candid, my experience is really NA focused, I'm not really qualified to advise on best practices with a 700+ Centri manual car. I'm going to say given the 3.42s, you're better off with the shorter tires. But, if you don't get any more learned responses here, I'd post up a thread in the FI section with exactly what your goals are, street/dig/track. Those guys have the experience to advise you better than I do.

Looks about 135-138mph.

What brand 3.90's are you running?

4.10's and Motive is the only one who makes replacement gears for our cars.

Sorry about that. For some reason I was under the impression that you were on 3.90s

What tire are you running with the 4.10s? Did I totally miss that somewhere in this thread?

Yes but I've run both 275/40/17 and 315/35/17, they are the same height. I prefer the 315 on a wide body car like mine as they give a bit more traction I've found, but the rub on standard fenders so you can't use them without special offset wheels.

I know this thread is old but it'll help me. I just ordered some 17x11 weld s77 with these tires sizes you suggested am I going to rub as well with these wheels? I only make 533whp and 487 torque. What would be an ideal tire size for me please and thank you

No rubbing on wide body with 315. Narrow body will likely rub depending upon rim back spacing. 275 won't rub and is still great traction.

Sorry I forgot to mention. Yes sir it is a wide body. 09 Z06 with my current power I was just wanting to get the right size so I don't lose gearing or acceleration, and doesn't rub. I'm new to purchasing wheels. I was just told buy these to eliminate spin due to more sidewall.

And it won't look funky in the back due to it being 315 and the stock 325?

My 315's look a little small compared to my 345's but the traction is well worth it. The front skinnies look even funnier but I like the look.

315 to 325 isn't noticeable.

Where do you plan to use the tires? Track or street? I would advise different brands depending upon your usage.

Yea I won't be doing a skinny. I plan on getting a matching 18 in the front when I get a little more money. But they will mostly be used on the street. Won't touch a track but mostly once or twice a year if ever. And weekend driving.

For street duty you need some siping on the tires. I recommend the Mickey Thompson 315/35/17 which has decent siping. Nitto drag radials last longer on the street I think but they are nowhere near as good on the track.

You don't want hoosiers or bias ply for street duty, they have no siping and will spin out in a puddle.

Others may have add'l opinions on street duty.

this is really helpful. How do the MT 275/30/17s compare to the Hoosier 275/40/17? Which are good enough to drive to and from the track? I Would be driving to work and to the track on track day (17x9.5 wheels). You mention the hoosiers have no siping, so i wouldn't really be able to drive these to and from the track? do the MTs hook as well as the hoosiers?
