Default 07 Auto doesn't always come out of park.

My buddy has an 07 auto, once in awhile when he stop and he puts it in park it doesn't always go back into drive. He shut the engine off and restarts and its fine. Could it be the Neutral switch, if so where is it located .Thanks for your help.

ok .. when this occurs he cannot depress the button on the shifter ? if so what has gone or going bad is a non-replaceable solenoid inside the shifter unit. He is going to need to replace the entire shifter unit.

Don't turn it off and try (with foot on brakes) push the shift lever forward and see if it clicks and releases the button so it can be put in reverse or drive. This works on mine.

It could be the switch in the shifter. Try pushing forward on the shifter like you are trying to push it further into park. You may hear a light click and then it will come out of gear. If this is it you can bend the tab on the switch back out so it contacts the shifter lever more completely.

I believe that switch may have been the problem on my 07 vert and son's 08 coupe. Pushing forward when in Park would always allow the lock solenoid to rotate the locking pawl out of lock position and allow the shifter to move rearward into Reverse, Neutral, Drive, etc.

Most of us that have had the shifter that is hard or won't shift out of Park due to a solenoid issue, have tied back the locking pawl so the solenoid no longer comes into play to lock the shifter.

If it does happen you can push down as per the pic to unlock the pawl and allow the shifter to move out of Park.

When I tried this trick four months ago, I got it out of Park down to Neutral & Drive. Then I was stuck with Neutral & Drive as my only available shift positions. I could not shift to Sport, Reverse and certainly not back to Park!! At that point I was forced to open up the shifter module to permanently disable the locking pawl with wire. The pawl was keeping me locked into Neutral & Drive only. No more problems until my shifter cable plastic grommet failed.

The only real fix is to tie back the pawl or get a new shifter. The finger push will keep you from getting stranded in a parking lot somewhere, that's all.
