Gear ratio swap questions? improvements, mpg, noise, cost?
Hey guys, I'm still tickled with the performance of my manual Corvette at 505 rwhp now, And I can't afford more hp anyways! However more performance is always a joy.
I have no need to ever travel as fast as these cars are geared to go so I'm thinking a nice gear ratio change might be the smartest next move. But I still want a 100% streetable car.
What can you guys tell me about a gear ratio swap? I have a Z51 model car btw which I think means I already have lower 1-4 gears correct?
I think the OEM ratio is something like 3.42?
How much money, how much performance, which gear should I choose, will I hate the noise on the highway, will I lose mpg, etc...?
Thanks

I have 4:10 rear, from the 3:42. Non Z51 MN6 LS3.
I love it, just more fun to drive more shifts.
You run about 300 rpm higher at freeway speed 65-75 mph.
Around town fuel consumption will go up depending on how high your rev. On the highway I see about a 2 mpg drop. This would be running at around 2,000 rom or 70-75 mph.
Really makes the car more enjoyable to drive.
What noise?
I have a stage 2 Street from DTE now Hoosier engineering. was around $1850 5 years back another $400 to install.
