Default 6L80E Transmission power handling

How are these holding up to decent power. Looking at possibly purchasing a vette with a trans built by century. How much will they handle? How is the shifting? I have never owned a sports car with a auto transmission.

The key to the A6 is having the proper tune in the trans and a good trans cooler. Heat will kill these things. if you address these issues there should be no problem.

Default Tune very important...

If the car you are buying has a transmisión done by Century there is nothing to worry about, these tranies need a reinforcemental behind the 2 to 3rd gear clutches that makes them vulnerable to too much pressure but is first thing that's taken care of so you are blessed to have a tranie already done in your car, good luck with that ride..

How much power will these things handle when built? Its just over 600 at the wheels now but it would be nice to push it a little further.

Some are running them at 1000rwhp. Depends on how they're driven IMO.

Chris, thesubfloor, is right at 600 I believe. Here's the report on his Century trans four years ago:

The current highest power build for an 6l80 I know of rite now is 1200 hp when used with a triple disk torque converter, I'm building mine at this performance level rite now but using a single disk converter sense is best for my n/a motor.

Hope this answers your question.

Any details on that car, how it's driven and how well the trans has held up.
