Default C6 Launch Control ? RPM

I was at our local track and another fellow with a 2011 GS Manual was asking about launch control RPM.

He never gets the same RPM with launch control.

first time 6100 RPM, 2nd 4700 RPM , 3rd 5300 RPM. Which sounds like it is not working properly.

I tested a ZR1 which held the RPM at a steady 4000 RPM each time. I believe the GS models are similar. We could not find anything in the owners manual other than how to enter launch control.

So should the c6 GS engage at the same RPM ?

Launch control sucks, since it breaks the tires on launch, then dials the motor back down after the fact to get the tires to stick again.

How to use launch control,
Hence in comp mode, first gear, hold the clutch to the floor (to engage the lower pedal button), hold the gas pedal all the way down to the floor (motor will hold 4K steady), then dump the clutch.
Once you come off the gas pedal from WOT, the launch system will disengage.

Lean to launch the car without it, and his lap times will faster/cleaner isntead; hence once the back tires break free and spin, you just lost a fast 60 time instead.

Also to note, in comp mode, TC is off, so if he breaks and over spins the tires going into second gear, that will be the end of him when the back end kicks out to put him into the rail isntead.

Its not a question if it sucks or not, its a question of if it is working as designed.

Do you know what RPM the engine should steady on. I believe it should be the same each and every time if it is working / engaged properly.

The automatic trans cars do not have launch control, only the manual transmission cars only.

So again, in comp mode (two TC button pushes after starting the car each time, and the DIC will state in comp mode), hold the clutch down to active the bottom clutch button, pin the gas pedal to the floor to get it into WOT/motor will holds the revs to 4K, then dump the clutch for launch control to work.

During launch control, do not come off the throttle from fully pressed down, or the launch control will kick out, and don't screw around with coming off the clutch too slow (come off the clutch pedal fast to let it dump out), or launch control will kick out as well .

So once you dump the clutch, keep the gas pedal pinned, and you don't come off the gas pedal until 6'ish K on the revs, hence once its time to shift into second gear on the manual trans. And again, when you shift into second gear, launch control has kicked off, and your on your own to control wheel spin, since part of being in comp mode is the traction control is turned off as well.

You can also go aftermarket. I just installed the MSD 2 step launch control device. You manually set the RPMs for the launch and then go. Should be a good time.

I didn't think they put in launch control until the 09's or 10's?

You can mess with the rev limiter setting for neutral to make it work in earlier years (the ECM treats anytime the clutch isn't 100% to the top of it's travel as "neutral")

Just have to make sure your clutch pedal is coming up all the way or you'll have a fairly violent surprise when you hit whatever RPM you've set the Neutral rev limiter to. Ask me how I know... I thought I had hit an animal or something when I hit the limiter on accident one time
