Which will Trap faster- Taller or Shorter tire
Interested to know from guys who do 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile drag
So on the C6 Z06- Stock gearing, stock tire, Rear wheel diameter is 27.1" tall...
Im looking to purchase a set of 17x11 welds with 315/35r17 tires which overall diameter would be 25.7"
Which setup will have a HIGHER trap speed at the end of the 1/4, 1/2 mile? the taller tire or shorter tire.. considering gearing is not altered

I'm in the 1/2 mile world and have heard from a few folks that the taller overall diameter will trap higher. I can't say first hand but know a few that have. It should also improve the low end with traction as well.

NA at that power level the shorter tire will give better ET on a 1/4 mile track (which is the point), assuming you can launch hard. i.e. not street tires. FI and a tall tire helps the launch and MPH, but ET suffers a bit.
I can't comment on 1/2 mile, but since it's only a HP and aero MPH result, the height probably doesn't matter as much as the width.

Never pay too much attention to different sizes of tire but I always thought taller tire would have better ET, if everything else stays the same (gearings, power output from the crank and tractions ..etc) taller tires would cover more distance than shorter tires. Simple physics, let's say a 24" tire covers a mile in about 860 revolutions and a 27" tire would cover a mile in about 770 revolutions. If nothing is changed the same amount of revolution per minute will transfer to the tire and taller tires will cover more ground.

The best ET and trap speed would be achieved where the car is in its powerband for the most amount of time. Overall gearing (trans, rear, and tire height) all play a part in this. You must determine the car's power under the curve and gear accordingly.
In the end, your setup should trap higher with the shorter DR. A 600 RWHP C6Z should trap into the 140s and 160s, respectively at sea level.

How many times are you going to ask this?
Here is your answer
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-speeds-2.html
Several people already answered that they lost ~3mph going from a stock size tire to a 28" in the 1/2 mile. Those were all 580-600rwhp HC z06. The smallest diameter tire that will still hook will give you the best gearing assuming it doesn't force an extra shift. A 26" tire is probably worth 1-2mph over a 27".
All the fastest 1/2 mile HC z06 here in Arizona are running 26" tires. Unless you are well over 800rwhp, a 28" tire just kills your gearing.

Like unreal said it was pretty much answered in the other thread. I have done quite a few 1/2 mile events, best mph has been achieved with the smallest diameter tire that will get me close to the top of 4th gear at the end of the 1/2. At 550 whp that for me is a 27" tire... I have played around with 26", 27" and 28" sizes. With a 100 shot I go to a 28" tire to stay in 4th. You want to avoid shifting into 5th if possible.
For the 1/4 mile stick with a 26" tire (I prefer 315/35-17 Hoosier DR2's) unless you are a really high powered car. Plenty of guys, including myself, have gone sub 1.5 60' on them. Again, I have tried 26", 27" and 28" tires in the 1/4 mile. I lost 3 mph and a few tenths going to 28" tall tires in the 1/4.
