The Road to 450
Hi guys,
I'm a Corvette Forums newbie, and a recent Corvette owner. Soon I'll be starting a project on my base 2007 c6 to ultimately reach a street legal machine cranking 450 rwhp. I plan to do all the work myself with the help of a local tune shop to track my progress.
450 rwhp. It's not much of a gain compared to the ridiculously insane project cars I have read about in this forum.
To me, 450 rwhp is the sweet spot. Where I can enjoy my ride on the street, as well as, take it to the race track for a couple of laps.
Most of what I post will be redundant for the hardcore racers, dragsters, and majority of senior members having reached the 450 milestone.
I hope I can get as much guidance from you as possible, but most importantly , criticism, lots and lots of constructive criticism.
I know most of the information that I will seek won't be shared since there are some folks here in the business of making money. Which is totally fair. Nothing is free.
But any help , feedback, guidance I can get from the folks who have accomplished 450 rwhp, I will be extremely grateful.
Enjoy the holidays !

I guess it depends on whether you want to have a NA setup or boosted setup. My first setup was an A&A Vortech Si kit. Made plenty of power, great street manners, and good gas mileage. Probably very similar in cost to doing all of the typical NA mods without the impact on MPG (mainly from a cam).

Welcome to the Corvette world! You found a great home here, this forum has been great for me over the years.
You're wise to set your sights to 450 in a c6. First, the tires will hold it pretty well, even street tires. Secondly, your rear end and transmission are well suited to this power level. I souped my car up to 475 rwhp and I'm on my second rear end and third transmission. When I was at 450 rwhp it was very reliable. Now that said, I really started chasing the 10 second slip after I hit 450 rwhp so that has a lot to do with it.
Anyway, here's a road map for the way to 450 RWHP along with some great discussion on gears and other go fast topics. I hope you find some use in this thread.

Welcome and congratulations on your new to you C6. I agree that 450 rwhp is a good number for the LS2. Your journey can good many ways on this one. You can do full bolt ons like air intake, headers and complete exhaust and tune should net you around 390 to 400 rwhp depending on the dyno. From there you need a cam and FAST intake manifold to close to 450. A little trick to max out your cam efforts is using thinner head gaskets to bump your compression up. Now that's the N/A route without doing heads. Now you can just do a 150 shot of nitrous or a supercharger kit to max your power but those have their own pros and cons. Goodluck on which ever route you go.

Strongly look into just doing an A&A kit and calling it a day. Carb legal, 500rwhp easy, and similar cost to what you would spend doing all the NA mods to maybe get there. Plus no bad mileage, and no bad drivability.

my 07 6sp car had Tick Polluter Stage 3 cam, obx headers, z06 mufflers, ported factory intake. Made 473hp 431 tq. Made amazing power and sounded perfect. I will try and find a youtube video of it.

And, unlike the other mods, you can take off a blower and sell it for 33%-50% of what you pay for it, absent labor costs of course.

Naturally aspired is what I'm thinking.
Did you go through several different CAM configurations since you started chasing the 10 slip ?? Or was it one design the whole way ?
What exactly are you controlling with the remote ??

By adding this mod, are you essentially tapping in to the exhaust for more escape flow ? In other words, you have a total of 6 exhaust pipes where exhaust flow can come out , with 2 of them being controlled via the QTP electric cut out.
Is there any HP gains by doing this ?
Thanks for post Joe.

Is this mod mainly to get more of an aggressive sound ?

No gains cutouts open or closed at 436 rwhp. I tested it on the Dyno open vs closed. I think it was 6 rwhp/tq at 475 rwhp if my memory serves. It might have been 6 at 450 rwhp it's been a while. It's really a sound mod and it sounds great in the car with the exhaust directed at the ground. Nice and deep.
