Going ATI, underdrive or not?

There's no reason not to go with an underdrive from ati. I ran the 10% on my old fbody and now my c6z. No problems in almost 7 years of combined use. Idle speed is not an issue and the small UD wont cause any damping issues

While ATI makes quality dampers, even they say that their UD versions DO NOT dampen crankshaft harmonics as well as the full sized ones do. I've also found that at low engine RPM, the water pump isn't being turned fast enough with an UD damper. It isn't enough to cause an issue, but the coolant temps will run a few degrees higher under certain circumstances.

I have had an UDP for 7 years with a stock water ump. No issues at all but even if there were you could easily bump the idle a hundred rpm. These cars honestly idle too low anyway. I seriously doubt it would even be enough to notice. Weather changes probably make more of a difference.
Also I have talked with Scott many times at ATI buying different pulleys from them and we discussed this. The 10% dampens fine but anything smaller they feel does not which is why you don't see many 25% models offered, they do make them for some cars but are not recommended for that reason. The 10 is fine for whatever you want to throw at it though

He didn't ask if it would dampen better.... he asked if it's worth getting the UDP or rather there's an actual gain. Pretty sure he knew the theory of an UDP before he asked though. In that sentiment you won't won't find many results of someone dunking right after only swapping a pulley. But IMO it's the little mods like that which add up to make a car run better than the rest

5-10whp is a common gain

This article done on a 5g camaro is a pretty rock solid comparison. Boltingon a meziere EWP and 10% ATI pulley they gained 18whp. Both mods commonly claim 5-10whp so it's pretty accurate

If your current balancer is good and a racing association doesn't require it, there is no other reason to change it unless you're wanting to squeeze every last HP from the engine.
