Default 17x7 or 18x7 fronts

Any of you guys running 17x7 or 18x7 wheels up front? I'm about to order Weld s77 up front to match my rear drag pack (17x10.5) and stuck on the fence between going with a 5 inch wide wheel or a 7 inch. I've seen a lot of guys running 17x5 but I'm wondering if the 7 wide would be more practical for my needs.

Wondering if anyone has some pictures of their car that runs this set up that shows off the stance and how wide they look? I know a few of you guys sent me a pic or two but you couldn't really tell how wide they look!

What rear tires are you running? I just put M&H 325/45/17 DR's on Weld S71 11" wide wheels on my '12 GS. I an running the stock fronts for now until I get my car sorted out and then plan to switch to front skinnies. Vengance Racing had recommended 185/55/17 M&H front runner (radial) with a 17x5 front wheel.

I run 18x7 up front with a 225 tire. I've had 17x5 and a real skinny, but unless it is a drag car and they are just used at drag strip, no way I would ever do that again. For 1/2 mile or any street use the more tire up front is much much more stable and usable brakes.

Running 315/35/17 Nitto 555 drag radials right now in the rear. I see a lot of those fast vengeance cars on skinnies

Thanks for the input. I'm going to go with the 7 wides like you said it just seems more stable and useful for what I do. The roads are pretty horrible most places around here so I'd be pretty worried about hitting a bump or pot hole rolling on 17x5 skinnies up front

Agree with Nick... run 18x7 also, as you know. Its a perfect compromise. Skinnies for daily driving just don't work out well especially if roads are full of potholes like where I am.

It isn't as much a pot hole issue, as much as emergency braking and turning.

I've ran them all but currently run a 17x7 on the front with a 255/45/17 because I needed the tallest front tire to get close on rear sizing of the 345/18. The Weld RTS is a very meaty piece of alumimum. Even the 17x5 is very meaty and would be fine for street durability.

The skinny just looks mean.

Have to disagree. We have terrible potholes here and my Welds bend easily if hit a bad one. Only good thing is the straighten just as easily. LOL.

Can certainly accept anyone who disagree's respectfully. My 71's and 77's held up very well to what I would consider as less than desirable infastructure maintenance.

You can't disagree with the fact they look better though and improve drag times.

Too add to this I like the look of the 18 inch front better. Can get the same height but with less sidewall. That's just a matter of taste. Either will do the job.

I love how 18s look but the 17x7 are about 120 cheaper a wheel so I'll probably just go with them to save some money lol. Still look good and get the job done like you said.

You guys think a 215 50 17 would work?

I did the 18s because back when weld was doing a mail in rebate, the 18s were $100 off each compared to $50 off each for the 17s, so they came out to the same price at the time.

If your goal is better track times, then go with the 17x5 and the M&H 185 tires. If you're wanting wheels/tires for the street, stick with something close to stock sizes.
You can either choose performance at the track or safety on the street, but there is no compromise in the interest of appearance nor bonus points on the timeslip.

18x12 medium pad 7.2bs, it's a custom wheel that I had special ordered. 345/35/18 MT SS

The entire set was for sale with tires. Simply because I'm foolish and wanted polished which is not offered in the 77.

In efforts to defeat my wants/needs, heck I don't know the difference. I ordered a brand new set of polished 71's which should be here any day now.

In the meantime I stripped and polished these 77's, approx 120hrs of labor so far and still not quite finished with the fronts. But they are 1 of a kind.

The powder coated 71's were 17x10.5 with 8.2bs running a 315/35/17 ET pro
