My 2006 base coupe has 97,000 on it and has been well maintained all its life, but I don't think the previous owner replace the wheel bearings.
How can I check or tell if they need replacing.?
Or is or a given that after 11 years and 97k they need to be replaces.
Thanks,
G
jack the front end up, grab the top and bottom of the wheel/tire and wiggle push/pull top/bottom side to side. but if you don't know what your "feeling" for.....

If it moves back and forth or up and down,, that would mean the bearing is bad?
For the front ones if you have the calipers off you can spin them and see if they're rough or loud. Mine were really loud/rough so it was obvious they needed changing. That was at around 140K miles. The difference in interior noise after changing them was huge.

I will have the wheels and callipers off for new tires and brakes,, also new shocks, so it will be easy to tell at that time if they need changing.
I will, also do the top and bottom tire shake before I take them off.
But from what I've been reading,, I should change them anyway as with 97k it won't be long before they will need it anyway, so why not now.
It's not that difficult to do.
Thanks,
G

My fronts started to go around 85K or so. They got changed at 98K under warranty. The rears gave up close to 120K. However, the LR got replaced 3 times until I got a good one. My advice is get something better than the average everyday Autozone hubs.
These are some of the wheel bearings I'm tinking of buying to replace the ones on the car.
Do you think they would be any good for that price?
I never bought any for less than $160 each that were any good. You can get OEM for about $170 from online sellers. PN 88967288 Rear - 88967287 Fronts are more spendy.

this works but isn't always shown. My right rear went out at 64k miles and had absolutely no play in it. But whenever the car moved it would click every rotation of the wheel. The clicking got louder and you could fell the car not wanting to move as easy. Replaced the wheel bearing and no more issues.

Yeah, I have to wonder how they can sell any bearing that would last for that low a price. But they come with a 10 year warrantee, so I'm assuming if they fail you could get them replaced.
I bought GMB brand ones on amazon for like $75 and they’ve been fine for 60K miles and several years. Doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have the same luck but it worked out for me using cheap ones, so far anyways

I'm not going to have this car for too many years before I can't drive anymore or I sell it, so if they last 30k or 10 years I'll be happy.
It's a flip of a coin with those cheap Chinese bearings. They could last 10 years, they could last 10 months. They offer a 10-year warranty because it costs more to remove and replace them than to just get new ones so they know warranty claims will be few.
Ok guys,, I have to apologise to you all because I have wasted your time asking about wheel bearings when after jacking the car up, I found that the bearings are just fine as far as I can tell.
I grabbed the wheel top and bottom left and right pushed back and forth as I have seen in videos,, and there is not the slightest movement.
Hard to believe that at 96k the bearings are still good.
So I'm not going to do anything to them right now.
Thanks you all for your time and info.
