Default Rear Axle drain plug removal

There is no room to remove it. The Fiberglass spring is right on top of it. 2010 base model.

I assume you are talking about the diff. Been awhile, but I think I cut off an allen wrench and then used a wrench on that.

that's what I was thinking. But is there enough room to swing a wrench? The filler plug looks very easy to get to.

If you compress the rear spring it moves out of the way enough to get the plug out.. I raise the rear of the car , then let it down onto a set of ramps., this compresses the rear spring and then you can get to the plug...WW

I jacked up the right rear and put it down on a ramp to look at the plug. It was more covered than both wheels on the ground. So if I put both wheels up on ramps, I should get enough room to get to the plug? I will give that a try tomorrow.

Rather than trying to put a socket on the plug, use a long ball hex extension. Works like a charm. No need to worry about compressing the spring

The spring is right below the plug and about one inch clearance between them.

Yes, custom cut down hex head should do the job.

Let us know if you succeed.

Compress spring for access certainly won't hurt.
From my memory, as alternative to spring compression, I believe one can loosen the transaxle rubber mount and then with a jock lift the assembly another inch for access.

I did cut a small piece of 10mm Hex rod to fit between the spring and 10mm Hex drain plug. (the max. length was 21mm to get it in there). Put a boxed end wrench on it with an extension and it wouldn't brake loose.
It looks like there is other drain plug (18mm) just above the 10mm Hex drain plug. Thanks for every ones input, but please let me know if this is a drain plug or not.

The hex plug is the drain plug. I do not know what the 18mm bolt is.

When I removed my drain plug I had to use an 18" breaker bar and it still was no joke. Those guys are the factory like to play games with us.

I'm not touching that 18mm bolt until I know what's it for. I'm going to try a long ball hex extension with a pipe on the end. But I don't think there is enough clearance to get it in there. The filler plug took a 18" breaker bar to loosen it. I don't want to take off that spring, that's a lot of work.

I didn't think there was enough room to get it by the spring, but it just made it. I put an adjustable 12' wrench on it close as possible to the spring. With a bit of cranking it came loose. Thanks again Racer1735 and all the others that gave their thoughts. I'm very glad I found this form. to all. I'm so glad I didn't have to go to the Dealer.
