Default Compass reading does not change

The compass on my inside rear view mirror does not change from indicating I am travelling North even while changing directions of the car. The dimming part of the mirror seems to work ok as does the On Star service. Does anyone know if this indicates the entire mirror needs to be replaced or can this compass function be re-calibrated as a DIY project? Please advise.

Default

Check the connector connections on the compass unit and if needed, it alone can be swapped out from one out of a used unit if it bad/board can not be repaired.

Default COmpass Calibration

I checked the connections and they appeared to be solid. Before I submitted this tread, I first tried to recalibrate the compass using the directions in the owners manual and I made circles as directed. I made 5 circles but the compass still read that it needed calibration. Yesterday, I tried again, however, this time I made 7 circles and the compass began to read different directions. On the 8th circle, the compass worked as it should and the CAL notice disappeared. The compass now works as it should.

I appears the Max 360 has a magnet inside that is to be used with a magnetic mount. However, this magnet causes the compass to become disoriented due to the magnetic field around the RD. I found this thread that may be of interest if someone wants to remove the magnet from the device, although I take no responsibility for any malfunction of either device.
