Default C6 corvette coolant temperature

My dad has been experiencing an issue lately with his C6. The temperature will read at 140-150ish for a while and then it will jump to the low 200's. This happens with every gauge in the car, digital and analog. He also gets a coolant warning message after it happens. Think it might just have a low coolant level in the radiator/surge tank? I know the coolant level is based off an algorithm and not a sensor.

Check the coolant level. do your best to burp the system and replace your thermostat. Your symptoms are in line with an air bubble and or a faulty thermostat.

MWI would have a qualified gm tech look at the radiator fins for clogging. I would look at the possibility of the thermostat going bad. I would look to see if the water pump is weeping. I would also check the hoses ..sometimes its as simple as that...i would look at coolant level first as a good indicator...

those are some of the issues i would consider...
