Default Clicking/Ticking Rear Wheel? Base C6 HELP PLEASE!

I can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from
It happens in sync with the wheels rotation and isn’t affected when I use my brakes.
It does it consistently every time I drive. Clicking noise speeds up as I go faster... (vice versa)
I don’t think it’s an axle nut related issue because it’s tight up to spec. Axle has no play either.
I jacked up the rear and tried wiggling the wheel to feel for any play and it’s solid.
I’m lost, somebody please help me!

Obviously can't be certain but could be the axle splines are rusted causing the noise.

That happened to me, found that it was a rock stuck in the tire.

I wish it were that simple. I just tried lubing the splines with motorcycle chain lube and no change in noise :/

UPDATE: So I went out and raised the rear end and started rotating the wheel by hand to see if I could pinpoint the “clicking/ticking” noise and after plenty of hand rotations I didn’t hear any noise at all. Is this a good thing? I’m puzzled, no rocks or debris in the tread and no sign of cracked boots on the axle... any other ideas?

Good news! I didn’t hear it at all today so I’m guessing the lubricant finally spread across the splines just enough to quiet it! It is raining out but I don’t think that makes a difference (hopefully not)

Fyi, it's pretty hard to get all the splines lubed outside of separating the axle from the hub entirely. When I replaced my axle, I used a liberal coating of anti-seize all over the splines both on the axle itself and inside the wheel bearing on the hub. Seemed much more effective then the old pop the nut off and squirt what you can.

I seem to often be wrong around here but I would have been looking at a wheel bearing.

I appreciate the reply! You would be wrong again here.. no offense! Taking the axle nut off and pushing in the end of the axle (compressing it a bit) I was able to squirt the motorcycle chain lube behind the hub onto all the splines up, down, and around, pushing it in and out a bit until I was sure all the splines were coated, and BAM! No more ticking noise. Totally fixed!

Something seems wrong. But it's great if you got it worked out.
