2021 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Due to the poor design of the LS2 air intake housing, these engines can benefit from a good aftermarket air intake.
If you have an LS3 or LS7, and your looking for a HP gain, spend your $$$ on something else ... You already have a good air intake and filter assembly.

Airaid. I had one on my truck. Very happy with it on my '06 Vette.

I put a Z06 intake on my LS3. Just to get rid of that ugly box attached to the original one. Paid $80 for the Z06 intake with an almost new filter. Just sold my LS3 intake for $70 and the filter for $25. Bazinga !!

Never mind, I found the answer to the big ugly box.
It is called a Helmholtz Resonator, and is used to reduce intake noise (and - to some extent - reduce air flow turbulence) under heavy acceleration. It's just a vacant chamber attached to the side of the intake tube. There's no filter or mechanicals inside, so no maintenance is required.
It serves no other purpose, and can certainly be removed if you were to install an aftermarket CAI.
Many other cars have them, but 08 is the first year it's been engineered onto a C6, specifically for the LS3's new intake system, which is otherwise identical to the Z06 intake.

C6 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
As you notice, everyone doesn't use the same one. You need to first define what your need is, the car you have, and what other mods you have or are planning, before you ask what works best for your application. What works for one, doesn't work for all.

I have a 2009, the only mods are dual mode mufflers, and I would like to replace my stock intake with something that looks better and hopefully improves performance. I don't have any planned mods because this is my daily driver and I'm trying to resist the urge to mod it much. I'd like to find a good deal on an AIraid but I'm open to suggestions. Any spare money for mods is going to my C3 LS1 project.

airaid here ..... but that CF one above is sweet!
wouldn't mind a corsa since that's what I have for exhaust.
