I just installed a set of headers ( I'll make another post about that after I get it dynoed) and I was a little worried about heat, especially the starter. I did a bit of research and found this thread https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1594390770 so I decided to give that a try. What I discovered was that I couldn't attach the wires with the heat shield in the way, so I had to modify it a bit, and ended up with something like the pics below. It fit good, hopefully it'll work.
I know this is an old thread but I am getting ready to do this myself and had a couple of questions. Hopefully you have had this in your car for a few months and it is working well for you. Does the cutting you made effect the shielding of heat to the starter? If it does effect the heat shielding do you really need to make that big of a cut or is it OK to only cut so that the black cap and connections are exposed?
I've had it on for a while now, so far no problems, but I also don't live in a warm climate, and me headers are coated, so the starter heat shield may have not even been needed. I originally made the cut smaller, but couldn't get the wires to fit so had to cut it bigger. But I think most of the heat from the headers is coming from the side which is untouched
Thanks for the responses. I live in southern California where in the summertime it can get well over 100 degrees. This week we were already in the upper 90s. I have been stuck on the side of the road because of this issue and want to get in front of it before it gets too hot. Am even considering wrapping my starter with a wrap first and then this shield. .
I think I’ll save this to my notes, I’ve been running my 09 with 1 7/8 LT and off road x pipe and in about three years no issues with starter even in our heat down here, but it is a dry heat.....
Figure I’ll wait until I have to replace the starter then add this shield. I do know it’s more important to have air flow around starter than totally wrap it with no chance for air flow as HOXXOH says above.
I looked at the Lingenfelter but thought I read that it needed to be zip tied to the starter itself making it more like a wrap. Well at least the half/part that is zip tied. I thought the price was too high for a wrap. Although I think it can be installed without having to remove the starter which is a plus. If anyone knows if this is the case please let me know.
Thanks hubes and everyone else on this thread. Ended up using the same shield and making the same cuts as pictured above. Its in there and everything seems good. Will give an update later in the summer when temps here get way above 100 (It was 103 yesterday). I am sure it will be fine.

Keep us posted. I think this will be a good comparison since you've had problems in the past. Did you change anything else?
Yeah last summer at least twice I was stranded. One of the times I had it towed to the dealer and they "couldnt recreate the problem". The other time I took an Uber home and went back the next day and it started right up, I assume it cooled enough. Other then the shield I only changed out the starter itself. Thought since I had to take the old one out anyway might as well so bought an ACDelco. The old one was working OK but had a lot of discoloration on the plastic part maybe from the heat.
