Default 2006 corvette maf question.

I know on the ls1s you could remove the maf screen. I know that the ls2 also has a maf screen. Does anyone know if I would throw a code if i chose to remove the maf screen.? Also, if you have heard of the Granetelli maff senor for it, if anyone has ever purchased it and ran into any problems. Online it says its immediate plug and play without a custom tune and that it wont throw a code. Any help would be much appreciated.

I learned a long time ago to just leave some things alone as long as they work, the MAF sensor is one of those things...If the wire screen on the C6 is anything like the screens on C4 Corvettes, then it's there for a purpose..On my C4 Corvette the screen helped even out the air flow before it entered the plenum , removing it would cause rpm fluctuations because of uneven air flow. The screen on the C6 is most likely there for the same purpose... . Believe me , GM wouldn't spend money on developing something if it didn't have a purpose...
.PS. I also learned that if you replace a part on a Corvette , your much better off getting a GM stock part instead of aftermarket, unless it's a "go fast" part you want that GM doesn't make....WW

Yeah it's hit or miss removing the screen. I actually bored out an entire MAF after malfunction to gain extra horses, but that's another story...

However, lots have had success going with the G-MAF, without any problems (me included (previous owner)). Whether or not it is worth it, is substantially debatable. And if you decide to go bigger MAF, you just might run into problems with the MAF curve, within the tune.

Yes, you could remove the MAF screen on the LS1's but it was there for a purpose...to straighten out the airflow that was mentioned here...some of the Z06's had a MAF from the factory without the screen but whether that was engineered into the car I don't know....if your car has it...leave it !!...you're not going to pick up 50 horsepower.

HRMMM ls3 maf will plug and play? i heard the ls3s had surge problems from the ls3 maf with aftermarket intakes? but who knows i probably will end up just leaving it i mean 500 dollars isnt worth 1 rwhp but i was hoping to have like a full intake setup, already have the cold air, and bellow. but i was going to get a weapon x ported tbody and a vararam power wedge with it. also already have shorty headers catback and a hand held diablo tune. was just looking really to get a little but more response out of her at the throttle. hmm thank you guys for all of the input!! now to decide.
