I'm looking to order an engine that will net me 800rwhp. Currently I have the following mods 1 7/8 Longtube headers, A&A TI trim, snow performance meth, and new clutch that supports 1100hp. I blew my last engine in my GS 2010 with the ls3. Not looking to rebuild as I've failed miserably at it twice. Now I just want to pull the engine and add it to my OBS Silverado. The engines I'm looking at now are as follows:
Stock ls3 $6,000 used 31k miles
Stock ls7 $8,300 brand new
LS3 416 completely forged supports 1100rwhp new
LS3 441 new $12,000 forged everything
I would like to get the stock LS7 but nowt sure if my setup could push it to the 800whp mark. if there is anyone out there has gotten a LS7 to crank out 800hp to the wheels with a Ti trim please let me know.
Nice goal do your research I strongly suggest staying away from the LS7 block with those goals.
A strong foundation is a must for a good trouble free block I recommend an LSA/LS9 block as they are easy to find and affordable light weight and strong also their heads will take it too.
Find a good roller tip rocker to keep your valve guide maintenance low and valves in their place.
Good luck & happy thanksgiving all.
LS9 Longblock was my first thought but the problem here is that they super expensive around $17k for a used longblock with low miles. for that same price I can get a completly forged racing long block with A&A supercharger YSi and still be cheaper than the used LS9. And that setup was rated at 1100rwhp. So ls9 sounds good but definatly not the best bang for the buck. Also why do you say the ls7 is a bad idea. I figured with the 427ci (LS7) I don't have to run as much boost.

the Ls7 has weak cylinder sleeves. I pushed mine to its limit knowing I was rolling the dice and cracked both a sleeve and ring land on the stock piston making 798whp on pump and meth.
You could get a bored out re sleeved 427ci from Texas speed , but I believe they start out as a 5.3. Ls3 block is prob your best bet
Def start with an LS3 for cost or an LSA block and build... there is no in between IMO, and the ls3 will take a little more cylinder pressure and should hold up through 800tq

Unsure what 17k means to you to me is 17 thousands however if you mean an ls9 block is expensive 1,700. try doing it back to back for taking short cuts do it rite the first time and be done with it, also know that is not good to play at your limit when a pulley change away will net you anther hundred whp and if it comes to that is good to have the option available, I know what you want now but ones you get used to it you will always want more (I like to call it thinking ahead) been there many times and know what’s next. Taking the limits off from the get go costs a little more but has proofed right to every one that’s tried it.
Just for the record because is rated at 1100 only means is capable to produce that kind of power IT does NOT mean it will be guaranteed to live at that level of power.
I’m making 944whp on a refreshed bottom end with forged pistons, hellfire rings and stainless pins.
So LS7 with a forged piston only bottom end. E85/meth and this is on a Procharger P1SC1 head unit, so smaller then a Ti head unit. (3.55” pulley 12 psi) so yeah it’s definitely possible but I wouldn’t push more then 6-8 psi and 800whp on a SBE LS7 personally.
understand all, and yes the $17k means $17,000. there is no way a ls7 is $1,700 unless the block has serious damage. also never have taken short cuts on any of my builds and defiantly won't start now. thanks for the input but the previous member delivered the mail on what I was asking. I was trying to go with the 427ci LS7 because I would have to run as much boost to get the hp numbers I was looking for. my goal is 800rwhp that is it. that is more than enough power for any street strip setup, the 1,100 hp block was my safety measure. I hear it all the time you will get use to it and want more. I really don't see that happening. 1000rwhp car on the streets is completely nuts too me. I have other vehicles for the drag strip that makes that kind of power should I feel the itch.
