07 Z06 with LG headers....Took passenger side exhaust manifold gasket out...No way am I getting these bolts to line up again...I’m a one man operation as of now..
Any suggestions ? Disconnect collector ? Never attempted that before...
just find you a bolt the same size as the header bolts but longer.and grind the head off ,to
make you a stud to hold up the header and gasket . so you can start the bolts

Yeah I tried ....Still can’t catch them...Have a mechanic friend of mine that’s supposed to come next week...Four hands are better than two.....
If I knew it was this difficult I would have just taken it to a shop.....It wasn’t ticking or anything but just dark around some of the edges..Figure I do a little maintenance..How hard can it be ?

what he said. just get 2 cap screws of the same thread size only 1/2"-3/4" longer and cut the socket head off and screw into the front and rear exhaust bolt holes. then you can slide the gasket on and then slide on the headers and snug up the center bolts. remove the outer 2 and insert the correct bolts. tighten all bolts. move to other side. repeat.

Stuck....
I'd disconnect the 2 bolts at the collector as it's probably preventing you from mating the header flange flat against the head.

Been under the car a few times since I have owned it.......I looked at a photo online of the LG long tube headers and is there even bolts on the collector? In the photo it looks like the pipes are just welded straight to the collector.....Have to get under the car again to see...That wouldn't be good...
Yeah let’s hope I can get one of my jacks under there..The work area in my garage is the equivalent of a closet ...
Well that definitely makes it more challenging but yeah that’s your best bet is to get a jack under there and stabilize it unless you can get another set of hands to help you out

Quick question..I’m only doing passenger side...If I put the jack under the passenger collector will it stabilize it enough because the drivers side is still connected ...Drivers side I’m not even going to attempt because the E85 fuel lines are in the way and I’m not sure how to disconnect...Besides there seems to be no discoloration near the pipes..

Yeah should be fine, it worked for me. I replaced my header gaskets and did one side at at time.
With the two offset center holes it can only go one way. QEM would have been a better choice.
oh yea good point didn’t think about that. I agree tho the mls oem gaskets are hard to beat. I would only use a thicker gasket if I knew I had a warped flange.

Ok done..Used the jack and a crow bar a little to get these bolts on...Didn’t want to cross thread...So should be good..Thanks for the tips..
for next time...a friend showed me this once and I always works for me.....cut a slot in the gasket, so you can drop it in AFTER you get the end bolts started. Usually getting the header/manifold started with 2 bolts is pretty easy, then drop the gasket in, then snug things down and install the rest of the bolt.

Glad I read thru to your post, because I was gonna say the same thing. I did exactly what you have posted years ago, first on the Gen 1 SBC, and now on the LS engines gasket!! I also used to do it on some header flanges. Slotting the gaskets makes it a Helluva lot easier, not to mention quicker......

If you can do that then great....In my situation even with cutting a slot in the gasket I could not line up the end bolts for nothing ....If I had another set of hands , then maybe...The jack works very well....
