My son has my ‘08 Z and is going to have the heads done. I had no idea that there was a major issue for this needing to be done, so we have an appointment with Abel Chevrolet on the 22nd to have the work done. I trust Abel’s 110% to do the work. They average two cars a month using American Heritage Performance parts.
well GM denies there is or was ever an issue a lot of folks on here have had theirs heads done, many with AHP parts
When my son told me he wanted to do the heads, I said, why? I told him, If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. We’ll he did allot of reading about the Z and that engine and decided, get it done. He babies that car more than I did, and that’s good. Maybe some day he’ll get a new one.

Two parts to that story. GM did come out and replace the heads/motors that the actual valve seats where not centered on the center line of the valve guide channels (that one of there sub contractors produce the problem from the start), but the problem of the worn guides to stems that caused the sodum vavle head to crack off from seating on off tram, they did not reconize isntead.
So the first problem, valves seating with side pressure to the stem in the guide/ easy pick up to start with, would take the engine out quickly as the valve head did snap off trying to seat to the seats off concentric. The later from wear and the valves not seating tram on closure to snap the head off the valve that way, that's the reason that you replace the valves with stronger SS units, since your always going to chasing the wear problem on the motor forevery.
That’s what I was told by my sales guy. He did say that GM did fix some under warranty and that dealerships notified their customers of the issue, but not the dealership where I bought the car back in ‘08. The car only has about 19k miles on it.

I had AHP do mine. Kohle and Jake treated me like I worked there. The only thing I wish they would've found is some sort of "red flag" upon tearing them down. Kohle told me whoever originally did the heads actually did a decent valve job on them. I know the place that put them together used a Serdi machine on them, so it should've been "decent." Anyway, I checked AHPs work, and they did a damn fine job. You won't be sorry.....
