Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to capitalize on the black friday sales and buy everything for my LS2 cam swap on my 2007 M/T. I have done some research but don't feel 100% confident in the info I found on whether I have a 1x or 4x sprocket. The engine code is "U" and was hoping I could get a more conclusive answer from you fine people.
It is possible that your 2007 has a 3 bolt cam gear but it is likely to be a single bolt cam gear. GM was in transition from the LS2 to the LS3.
As for a new chain, it is not a bad idea to get a new one but as far as I know one of the improvements of the LS2 was a stronger timing chain. When I cammed my 2006 GTO that had the LS2, I did not change my timing chain as the car only had about 30,000 miles and there was no hint of wear or stretch in the chain.
Do you have a parts list you can post? People here can check it and make sure you aren't forgetting anything.

Thanks for the info, I will order the cam gear and just send it back if I don't need it. Here is my parts list, I will order the push rods once I take the measurement, I might also add the Mamo ported FAST 102 to it before I tow it 3.5 hours to SLC for the dyno. Currently has a Corsa CAI, Speed Engineering Headers and X pipe going to ATAK mufflers, and a Mamo ported LS2 throttle body.
I'm replacing the A/C condenser since it is leaking onto the ground.
I also don't know that I will need to pull the valley cover, is that something that needs to come off for this?
Not a bad idea to add some water pump gaskets and front cover gasket just in case. Also, a good idea to replace the front cover balancer seal if that isn't in your list of parts.
Also, I am a big fan of the BTR shaft rocker system. I installed this on my LS3. They do make a version for the LS1/LS2 and it is not much more expensive than the CHE kits: BTR Shaft Rocker Kit

All of those gaskets and seals come standard with the TSP kit, and I added an AC Delco timing chain damper to my Summit cart, thank you for that. As for the BTR shaft rocker kit, I will look into that more but will likely wait until next year to do it, if the motor is still happy after next summer I will most likely send my heads to TSP for a port job and throw an A&A kit on it, I will probably wait until then to do the intake too since that is nearly as much as I'm spending for all the parts I'm about to put into it..
Can you tell me if I will need to pull the valley cover? I saw the option for a new gasket for that in the TSP kit but I thought that was only if you had DOD and were deleting it.
I just ordered everything in the TSP cart since they said they don't have any additional sales on Cyber Monday. Now waiting for Summit to start their sale.
a clients 2006 had 3 bolt, my 2007 had 1 bolt. Both had the 4x sprocket. The 2006 had the simple 1-piece belt tensioner, my 2007 had the wonky ratchety design.
I would recommend then to also order the LS2 style of dampener just in case you have the LS3 style of tensioner which being a 2007, you likely do. The LS3 style of tensioner is not as robust as the LS2 dampener.
My 07 Manual had a 1 bolt as well. I was confused about this issue and just waited until I got the timing cover off before ordering a chain and gear during a cam swap.

I have this documented so I'm 100% sure
Thanks for this, I have the one piece damper in my Summit cart now. The one piece should be a direct bolt up without any adaptors correct?

Yeah, I have it in the cart already, I will check out the tube brace, thanks!
It appears it would be very difficult to install the brace without pulling the oil pan. Am I looking at it wrong?
You are probably right. I remember I had installed the Improved Racing brace when I did the cam in stall in my 2006 GTO. But in that car there is more room to drop the oil pan. You would likely need to remove the pan in the C6 to be able to get that bolt.
The chain dampers were interchangable, I actually used the one out of the 2006 when I rebuilt my 2007 engine. I've never used a pickup brace, I've never had a problem with that
