Its a known problem, GM did have a recall of the problem to fix it when found, but that recall has timed out to be done for free now.
Short of that, could be a O ring leak in the cross over tube, or a hand full of other problems. So bets bet is to have a smoke test down on the fuel system, to find out where the leak is coming from to start with, then you figure out if you want to do the repairs, or have someone else do them instead. Hence dropping and reinstalling the tanks to replace the fuel pump, no walk in the park.

Anyone having issues with fuel smell or vapor leak? Any ideas. This is a C6 model.
Two possibilities.
1. Cracked drivers side fuel pump fitting on top of pump. Several hundred $ to fix and a lot of work.
2. The other is your EVAP purge solenoid has gone bad. Easy fix. $20 part and about 20 minutes of your time.
I would try changing out the EVAP solenoid and see if you still have the gas smell. If not, then it's fixed. If still has gas smell, likely need to change out the drivers side fuel pump.

I had the fuel pump crack. Then about 6 months later got the evap error code had that stop do both. with an auto it was impossible and lying on my back to replace evap solenoid. it tuck above the exhaust near transmission.
Where is the evap purge solenoid located? I cant seem to find a picture of it anywhere that isnt just a stock photo to make sure I know what I am looking at
If it was EVAP solenoid, it would throw P0455 trouble code usually. However that is not 100 percent of the time, if it does not detect a very large leak, it might not. Mine is bad, I will change it at next oil change when the car is up, once in a while I get that code, clear it and it stays away for a long time. It is at the back driver side behind the axle/ exhaust.

With my tune I have all the emissions stuff turned off so it doesnt throw codes. I havent gotten to pull the tank yet (on the list since I am in the process of pulling the subframe right now to rebuild the torque tube) so was going to try this next. I remember reading something that said there is one to buy since it has the harness or something like that, vs the other that you still have to get the harness (not sure of the reason or if it was this, just knew it was for the evap system)

Is the Doorman the one to get as a replacement?
The Doorman one will work fine and it comes with the short harness adapter. On my 2011 car, I did not need to use the adapter as my car's harness had the correct connector already. I would imagine maybe earlier cars have a different connector that was changed in later cars.
I would definitely change this out first as it is cheap and easy so replace the part.
