Lost my harmonic balancer
If you want, you can pin the balancer - once it’s installed, using a jig, you drill a hole between the crank and the balancer and insert a steel pin. This keeps the balancer from spinning. Then properly install whatever proper bolt you decide to go with
The second part, is 272 loctite is used, to lock the threads in place.
So my guess, not new bolt, not loctited, and why is came loose so fast.
And will bank that HB was not installed with HB tool, to fully seat it to the snout of the crank to begin, before the oem bolt was brought in to play.
So all and all, shop gets to rip the front end apart again to get to the bolt and HB so they can remove it, replace the timing cover seal since it was torn to hell when the HB when forward, and this time, make they use a ARP HB bolt, since it just a torque to 237fl lbs, and not the additional torque to stretch of the oem instead.
Also, same/same with ARP being loctite with 272 as well.
Did you get this fixed? Like others have said. You don’t need the diamond washer. I’ve done this job before on my own. Summit balancer, ARP bolt which by the way is reusable.
When I replaced my balancer. I also got a pin kit from A&A corvette. That balancer will never slip again
I am more worried for you with the broken part of the bolt in your crankshaft.
You can see my photos below I marked up. Also you can see the pin kit and arp bolt.
I know that most of you will ask, why I haven´t pulled the car aqay from the shop and brought it elsewhere to be repaired. The answer is 2-part :
1. There is no other shop in a 150 mile radius which will even touch an american car
2. The actual shop has already signalled, that they concur that it was their fault and will therefore charge nothing for this. But it´s a little shop with only 2 lifts and they are swamped with cars. As I still have the C4 and the 2 Smartcars to play with, I will give them the time needed.
As for the bolt situation : I couldn´t get an ARP bolt delivered here to Germany within any normal timeframe so I opted for the following :
Original GM Bolt and a Summit Racing LS Damper Pin Drill Fixtures (SUM-900341) which finally fits to my Summit Racing Bracket Racer SFI LS Harmonic Blancer for Corvette/CTS-V/G8 (SUM-C2501)
This should solve this problem once and for all. I hope.
Anyway, have a nice evening !
I got the car back. As it came out, the bolt was not broken at all, but came loose in one piece. The mechanic is absolutely sure he put it in with loctite (visible on the old screw) and torqued it. Good news is, that nothing in the sourrounding area was damaged, so now the harmonic balacer ist back in place, it´s pinned and they used a new screw from GM with the proper instructions (ARP Bolt was simply not available anywhere in Europe). But I think that should keep it in place.
It took some time, but it was free of charge, so I am a happy camper and the car is running fine for now.
Cross your fingers for me !
Cheers from Germany

a single pin would have been sufficient but your ready for an 8 rib supercharger and way more boost than the motor could handle.

This also generally insinuates that the bolt wasn't torqued tight enough because if it was torqued tight enough it will draw the damper all the way on in the process.
I've even seen people reuse the stretch bolt and never have any problems but tight is tight.
Glad to see you got it all fixed up.
I am happy to hear the you all think it will be fixed with that solution.
Cought myself a nice flue right after the car was repaired, so the testdrive will have to wait a few days.
Cheers from Germany !
