What Can the C5 steal from the C6
EDIT: I meant to put this in the C6 technical section. Can a mod please move it? Thanks
I'll be honest....Even though the C6 section has been the pretty much the only place I visit on CorvetteForum for the past 6-12 months, I'm not going to be buying a C6 in the immediate future. And I suspect a lot of other C6 watchers are in similar circumstances. I bought other cars too recently, so it's not the right time financially, and I'm also waiting for the Z06. But in the meantime I wouldn't mind reaping some of the benefits of the C6 and putting them to use on my C5. So....what are we going to be able to steal? Here's what I've come up with so far. Please add any suggestions:
Heads: These new heads may be better castings than existing LS1 or LS6 castings, and they may fit. Anyone know? Also there are rumors that the upcoming 3 valve heads will fit.....this would be incredible.
Wheels. I'm sure there are those who will want the new wheels. They are arguably cooler than the C5 wheels (especially 97-99).
Tires: The new runflats are going to be better....will some replace their runflats with these?
Brakes: According to Car and Driver (I haven't read it elsewhere) the Z51 brakes will be about an inch larger and will have special brake pad material. Will they fit a C5?
Seats: Lots of nice comments on the new seats from most reviewers. I imagine they'll bolt right in.
Interior components? Will anything be able to transfer? My first guess would be no, but then again they haven't changed much structuraly....perhaps a lot would fit. At least stuff like the nav system.
That's all I can come up with off the top of my head, but I'm certain there's more. Parts that have been lightened or optimized in some way. Pieces that look better. Features that are new. I don't want to get into a debate about what's "worthwhile" or whether it's better just to buy a C6, or perhaps some aftermarket parts. This is just an attempt to figure out what could be done.

I am not sure if it will be known for a while if the LS2 heads will work on the LS1/LS6 stock bore size. In the GM press release info on the LS2 head design, it mentions there is work done in the CC that allows the unshrouding of the valves. This is a common trick in some of the aftermarket P/P LS1/LS6 heads for larger bores. However, this could possibly cause some issues fitting the head to a smaller bore motor. If it does fit, it sounds like you will get a nice increase in flow as I am sure the new intake would then work fine. The new T/B is going to be interesting. Since it is larger, I am sure many would like to put it on the C5s, but I guess that will depend on the new electronics that control it being able to work with the C5.

Forget the C6 parts, just put a turbo on your C5 and you will be more than competitive with the C6's. Super chargers work too!

Brakes: If the hub mounting points for the caliper bracket are the same then the brakes should swap over easy, have to swap the larger wheels too.
Tranny: I hope.
Complete Engine: I hope.

Re: What Can the C5 steal from the C6 (GNX#424)
I checked the diameter of the C6 wheels (with the new runflat tires mounted) and they are within fractions of an inch of the diameters of the C5 wheels (front and back). So switching wheels and along with that to the new runflats should be a snap if the offsets are the same. The only unknown is will the C5 tire pressure indicators fit the C6 wheels - if not I guess you could mount them with bands,

Re: What Can the C5 steal from the C6 (abraham)
Probably a better idea to go with the C5R hid setup that a couple of forum members have put on their C5s. I don't think it integrates as well into the C5 front end, but it has to be better at lighting the dark than the stock system. The C6 system looks like it would take a serious bit of body work to intergrate smoothly into the C5 front facia/fenders.

Re: What Can the C5 steal from the C6 (MC TORCH RED)
MC,
I hear rumors now that all the bolt locations remained the same, so the only issue preventing your LS2 head swap may be valve clearance with the stock 3.9 LS1/LS6 bore. Maybe it is time for you to go with a big bore :smash: That should cure that problem ;)

Re: What Can the C5 steal from the C6 (LymanSS)
Does anybody know if the LS2 block will fit in the C5??? Would be nice to make a 402 or 427 with a 4" or 4.125" stroke. The 4" stroke would make a perfectly square engine. Would get a nice bore size without having the sleeve or buy a C5R block.

Re: What Can the C5 steal from the C6 (Mehfoud)
The block is identical to the current LSX series with only a few sensors moved and the lifter valley redone for the DOD system. Should bolt right in.
