C5 Z06 vrs. C6 Z06
I've just been wondering about what everybody thinks of the improvements, etc of this completely new Z06 compared to the C5 version. I always thought the C5 Z06 was one of the most amazing sports cars that I'd ever been in...especially in terms of cost. I've also seen some pretty amazing hp numbers coming out of modded C5 Z's...How do you guys think this new Z will stack up against the old...in terms of performance for buck, ability to mod, looks, handling, originality, and just the flat out possibilities for gobs of HP and performance?
Congrats to all you guys who have already picked up your new beastly beauties...

13 seconds is BIG. Big as in HUGE. Enough said as to performance improvements.
However--in the hands of 99% of forum owners will that performance difference make a true difference in their driving..not a chance...most are fully cpable of getting in way over their heads with the C5 let alone the C6. But in the hands of a pro or damn good driver on a race track--no comparison. Yeah, you can 'mod' a C5 big deal--hell, go buy a 72 Vega, extend the driveline to move the driver to the rear seat, drop in a 500+cid big block with 18lbs of boost, huge stickies and for $25,000 you got a car that will blow any Z off the drag strip...........

I had an 02 Z06, loved everything about it EXCEPT the pop up headlights. I'm so glad that the new car has exposed lights. In the C5, at night when you pop 'em up, the lines of the car is ruined. Picking my new Z up next week, will love it even MORE!

I much prefer the looks of the C5Z over the C6Z; the C6 is way too boxy with it's creased edges, and has no sexy 'hips' whatsoever. In other words, does not have the coke-bottle shape. Additionally, the tacked-on looking rear flairs and rear brake ducts look too Mustang-ish. Had the C6 stylists made the C6Z muscular looking like the C6R with it's wide-body, it would be a completely different story.
On the other hand, there's absolutely no comparison when it comes to the C6Z's chassis and powertrain as it wins hands-down; good job C6 chassis and powertrain engineers!
With that said though, I can't use all the power my stock 02 C5Z has, nor utilize it's handling potential while tracking at Road America (..2:35.1), let alone driving on the street (..I don't even try), so I'm not 'missing out' when it comes to the C6Z's performance capabilities.
Concluding, both are great cars. The C6Z has a great performance advantage over the C5Z, and likewise, to me, the C5Z has a great styling advantage over the C6Z. The question to ask oneself is, can I make use of the additional performance the C6Z offers?
When people mention this point, I can't help but laugh out loud: Who can see the lines of the car at night anyway??
Regardless, the point is you do like the C6's new headlights.
Congrats on your soon-to-be new car!

The Z06's are designed for Road Courses !!!
Lou's latest Dyno numbers show at least a Hundred Horsepower increase at the rear wheels. Throw in the improved brakes etc. and the C-6 Z06 will OWN the C-5 Z06, stock vs. stock, and most of the other cars considered to be in its class.
David Hill and his gang have put together a MONSTER... this sucker is gonna FLY !!!

The C5Z is an exciting ride ... and looks & sounds great.
The C6Z is the Major Leagues .... like a (C5Z) Squared.
I just hope it sounds as good as the C5 car ... and am hoping it sounds even better.

Hint -- the C6 forum is unlikely to be it.

Asked and answered by all who post on this forum. Did I mention? Those who think the C5 is ultra-totally-awesome-kewl can find a group to share with?

C5 Z06 = Afterthought to the C5 platform. GM modded the C5 with boltons. Heads/Cam, weight savings here and there. pretty much just tacked on items.
C6 Z06 = Purpose built from the beginning of the platform design. Integrated proprietary technologies seperate from the base C6.

With all due respect to the C5Z, to compare it to the C6Z is off the charts crazy.
Looks>>> C6Z. Bigger tires, tougher stance, tougher looking, HID lamps and better interior.
Power>>>C6Z. Not really up for discussion.
Hype>>> C6Z. No Vette in HISTORY has been anticipated as much as this beauty.
There is no comparison.

Have had both a stock C5Z and a s/c C5Z and now have a C6 Z06.
In general, the quality improvements of the C6 over the C5 are very good. The fit and finish of the C6 are much better than any of my C5's.
Only have 200 miles on the C6 Z06 but I can tell already that its power delivery will be much smoother than my C5 s/c Z06. The brakes are nothing short of incredible. The exhaust note sucks and needs improvement.

C5 shape is out of date. C6 is the shape of today and I'm already used to it. Sold my fantastic triple black C5 vert and was really sad for about a week but now after looking at the C6 triple black very in my garage every night, I'd never go back to the old shape.
