[Z06] HID Foglights: DIY with pics.
#42
I think the warnings against this upgrade are a bit strident and ironic considering that the STOCK "foglights" are the ones that are "just for show."
They are purely useless. I removed them and use them in my home for nightlights for my children when they have to get up in the middle of the night to go potty.

HID Lights
Hello all-
I actually bought and used one of these kits on my H2 Hummer. It was totally plug and play, and about 15 minutes per side to install.
I have contacted the seller and I'm trying to negotiate a 'Corvette Forum' price (and no, not a "Corvette Tax" price).
I paid $90 shipped to my door and had them in about 2-3 days. Quality was top notch and they looked and worked awesome. They are also available in all color ranges from 3000K up to 12000K. Seller was very responsive and offers a no BS warranty if you ever had an issue with anything.
I will post more on this as I hear back from the original seller. Here is a couple of pics of the install on my H2.
Left (passenger side) is factory, Right (driver side) is HID

Received my set; H10 bulb,45000 k ,55 watt unit today. My Apexcone has the ballast combined in one unit with the transformer. Were the "glue pads" enough to securely hold the transformer to the housing without additional screws in your opinion? How can you "aim" these bulbs?
Just make sure you wipe the area clean with alcohol before you stick them on there. At one point I was tugging on the (glued) ballast by mistake and it was stuck on solid.
Quick update: The lens temperature seems to hover in the high 90s F but this is still winter. This isnt exactly "cool", but I'll have to keep an eye on this as temperatures heat up in the summer.

I had help with my avatar picture-but I will try to post a picture. The box I received from therpmstore ($159/free shipping/out of state) looks like the Hummer picture(in size anyway). No 'ballast" on the cable separately. I was told the ballast and the transformer are contained in the same housing by therpmstore who seemed to know. Everything else looked the same as your kit.

I will try- Installed set this am. Could not jack up car so could not remove wheels-took longer, but lights up. I will shine them on garage door tonight and take a picture. The pliable rubber cone did not fit onto or into anything so I just pulled it up tight to the back of the lamp.Found the one push pin I lost putting the screen back on after a vette-air installation I did months ago! There seems to be a screw to the bottom door side of the lamp housing which likely is an alignment screw-did not "adjust it". Do remove your wheels if you can, otherwise tight fit and you have to turn the wheels back and forth to remove the wheel housings 8 times or so.

I just got done doing this to my Viper GTS - replaced headlamps and fog lamps....HUUUGE difference. I am going to have to do this to my Z06 now...thanks for the write up.
Has anyone simply tried simply switching the bulb for a "more blue" bulb?

Thread revival!
In the C6 zo6 fogs the stock wiring is purple and black wires (one of each) the wires from the HID kit were blue and black. I connected the blue to the purple and the black to black. I got one to turn on only after the car is started and the other flickers a bit but never comes on.
What's the problem?! Bad bulb? Bad Ballast? Don't know what to do help!

That fog lights doesn't look like a 4300k (not so sure if they sell 4500k), it looks more like a 6000k (blueish). If I'm not mistaken, the stock low beam is a 4300k right?

hmmm that hid kit is pretty pricey. I paid $50 for mine and they come with lifetime warranty lol. They've been great for a year and a half now.
I see people buying HID kits for $100+... you guys should check out ddmtuning.

I realize this is an OLD and a dead thread. I tried to install a Sylvania LED fog light kit today and they would not "screw-in" and lock into the stock bulb sockets. Where does one buy a fog light kit these days that's worth a sh*t??

I got the JWM Motorsports LEDS for 75.00 shipped. Theyre a forum vendor, plug and play.

I read though this thread and was asking myself what are they talking about? I saw the date eventually. True HID fogs and even headlights don't need to be more than 35 watts and will easily out lumen a 55/60 watt halogen, hands down. The brightest whitest HID color is 5000 K, with 4000K more yellowish and 6000k slightly blue. Amber HID foglight would be 3000K.
With the LED technology today, I am planning to use LED's on the foglights of my Chrysler 300 next. I would look at LED's first before HID's...very little current, cool running, last forever.

Well...I now know what will NOT work for the LED fog light bulb replacements. Sylvania ZEVO setup and the JDM Astar either.
Too fat around
will not fit 2012 C6Z
Nice white light if it fit !!
