My SRX is most definitely far superior to the Z. Should be the same.

Which is exactly why I didn't get the navigation option. I'm installing the DNX8120 this weekend. It uses Garmin mapping, Bluetooth (for cell phone use), full IPod control, HD radio, backup camera (if wanted), flash storage for maps and much, much more....

I didn't get the NAV either .... way too much money for something I wasn't going to use.

So how much is this system? Will you show install pcitures.

What exactly does it do that stock NAV does not????

I just bought my wife a new Acura MDX. Yes indeed it does have a great Nav and the voice recognition is the best there is.

I'd be interested in a full write up as well...I have a Garmin 680 for work and love it....

Our caddy nav seems better to me, too.

I don't use the nav in the Corvette much, but both of my Z06s have had nav because I dislike the looks of the regular radio that you get if you don't have nav.

Yes, I will do a full write up with pictures etc...It's going to be a really simple install. I've got the prep work done. I have a trick little feature that I will also be using the radio for. I'll reveal this when I get it installed and the write up done. The whole package will cost around ~$1200. This includes GM adapters ( for steering controls, chimes, on star etc...), mounting kit, and the head unit itself. From looking at E-Bay, I will be able to sell my factory 6-disc for around $300-400.

Like yourself, I really don't need NAV in my Z. It's not my commuter. I did however want an IPod interface, Bluetooth etc... The Garmin NAV interface blows the factory NAV interface away. This unit will download your cell's address book and SMS messages allowing you to dial and talk and read text messages through your radio. The IPod interface is lightning fast and plays your videos etc... Like stated previously, it uses flash based storage for fast mapping and not a DVD (like the factory). It's TV tuner capable, HD capable, camera capable, custom backgrounds etc...

That's why I got it also. I don't need Nav in the Vette, but like the looks and the radio buttons. It's worth it for that. I DON'T like the looks of the non Nav dash at all.

Fiveodude, thats the replacement i'm looking at also. Real interested in your write up. Are you replacing the head unit only, keeping everything else stock?

Yes, just a head unit swap. I'm happy with the sound, but from what I've heard, it will be improved as well.

Default One downside to aftermarket NAVs

Only problem with the aftermarket NAV systems around here is it's like hanging a 'break into my car' sign on the window. The guy next door to me has had the 4k one in his truck stolen twice in 6 months. Factory NAV systems just get ignored by thieves for some reason.

Probably partly because factory systems require VIN activation for security. I'm not sure how you would do a "smash and grab" in a Vette though. You've gotta remove quite a few things to get it out. They would need some time.
