Default '08 shifter vibration

Any one hear of there being a wide spread issue with transmission vibrations (any gear) in the '08 Z 06 being transmitted through the shifter?
This is distinct from the earlier year's shifter rattle issue.

The dealer Service Director claims the GM platform Manager was involved in a conference call with him today over how to fix my Z 06. The issue is allegedly so widespread that GM does not want to replace the transmission for fear the replacement will have a similar vibration in 5th (or another gear) to a greater or lesser extent.

They want to build a new 5th gear (in Mexico) send it to the GM Tech center to confirm it's within spec and then have the local dealer tech (who has not rebuilt a C6 Z06 transmission) install it...
If the fix doesn't work they would then replace the transmission.

Shouldn't their be a PIC or TSB if the issue is allegedly so widespread?

I've got about 5.5K miles on my '08 and no problems so far.

Hope they get you fixed up.

I've read about the past modelyears shifter rattle issue and the replacement shifter but not about a gear issue itself.
Hope all turns out well.

wow, that sucks. good luck with that.

my 08 Z, ~800 miles, has no vibrating shifter. Only thing i've noticed that didn't happen in my 05 z51 (other than amazing shifter feel lol), is that the shifter itself moves when i'm creeping at a stop light in 1st gear. Nothing drastic, just a little movement, a couple of mm.

Sure doesn't seem to be too widespread given the response....

No rattling problems with my 08, just the roughness on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts when the trans is cold, once it warms up it's all good.

This is not an aubible rattle but a visible vibration that you can strongly feel.
It has been identified as a problem with the 5th gear within the transmission.

I reported on CF this problem with my '08 Z back in February (when 1 month old). I received no responses to the post. I have had taken it to the dealer 4 times, but they have not been able to do anything about it. I am glad to hear that GM is beginning to recognize the issue. I have had the shifter replaced once, but no change. My Z has a visible, not audible vibration when pulling a load in 5th gear. It oscillates forward-to-backward at about 2 times per second. All other gears are are unaffected.

The saga continues....
They cut a new fith gear, checked it at the Warren MI tech center to ensure it was on spec... they re-installed it and the vibration is just as bad.
GM flew in an engineer from the manufacxturer of the transmission who drove the Z and confirmed there is a problem.
They are now building a new transmission which they will install in a test Z-06 to ensure it is vibration free before they install it in mine...

Default 2013 Vibration in 5th gear

Just got a new 2013 60th anniversary edition Z06. Not a 427 Convertible, a real Z06. Had a 07 Z06 for last 4 years both great cars. However, the 13 has a Vibration in the shifter in 5th gear. All gears feel good except 5th gear which under load vibrates so much the numbers on the shifter can not be read. I suspect from reading the forum it appears to be an issue in "some" z06's since 08??? I took it to local dealer for a test drive with tech- his response was " that seems odd and probably should not do that". He is talking with GM engineering to get guidance, should hear back next week. My questions to all are:
1. Anyone else have this issue?
2. Did you get GM to fix it? if so what did they do?
3. Is there a TSB for this? if so whats the number?

Thanks

Shifter box (bolted to trans tunnel) has solid brass bushings on '06-'09C6Z's...in 2010, GM started to install the base C6 shifter box which has rubber insulated bushings to reduce the drivetrain vibration issues. I'd start there...get a new shifetr box from Gene Culley at GM parts house (supporting vendor)...I'm guessing it will be around ~$100, and you can install it yourself.

Edit: One more question...stock shifter and ****? No short throw or aftermarket stuff installed, correct?

2008-2013 use the TR6060 transmission. My 09 does not have that vibration and works very well once warmed up for less than 5 miles. I haven't read much on this problem here on the Z06 forum in the last two years.

no issues here, just the typical cold/stiff shifts for a few miles then all silky smooth

Are you sure it's not just typical road conditions transmitting vibrations through the driveline? There are some known problems that tend to get amplified when installing aftermarket shifters. These cars are not luxury vehicles. You will have road noise, wind noise, driveline vibrations, and the occasional rattle and shake. Changing to DRM Bilsteins and swapping out the runflats tamed it considerably, but it's far from a Cadillac in ride quality.

I obviously did not describe the issue well enough.
- Brand new no Mechanical mods
- I had an 07 z06 without the vibration
- Vibration only ocurrs in 5th gear under load
- Issue is every time, not just sometimes- road condition makes no difference
- Road noise/imperfections would show up in all gears
- I doubt buying after market stuff to correct a defect in OE would be wise? it generally would just start a rat hole of other issues
- The questions asked were simple and were sincere and I'd appreciate just and to the questions

jwmgr8,

If your Corvette is brand new I would take it back to your Chevrolet Dealership to have this issue diagnosed. Please let me know what you decided to do?
