Why the switch to TR6060?
Were there too many problems with the T-56? Can the TR6060 handle more? I had an 08 C6 prior to my 07 Z06, and if the 08 C6 had the TR6060, I personally like the T-56 better. The 08 shifted very rough until the car warmed up. The T-56 shifts very smoothly, even when cold.

the new one does handle more hp & torque, has an extra syncro between each gear and the gears are wider and more robust.
from what i have read was that tremec has discontinued the t-56 in favor of the tr606 because it is a more robust version of the same trans.
now we all know there may be some quirks with first generation anything. and the t56 had many years to fix all of it's quirks.

They need to do something about the rough shifting on cold starts. I know many C6 owners complained of this, including myself. Not sure about 08+ z06 owners...

I just purchased an 08Z and the transmission works just fine. It shifts easily, smoothly and clicks nicely into gear. Several guys who I have let drive my car have commented on how great it shifts.

I've never noticed my trans shifting rough when cold on my LE. Don't know about your car but I have done one fluid change on my trans and rear axle. Perhaps you might want to try the latest fluid specified by GM on a bulletin for the trans and it might help your shifting woes.

When I skip shift my 08 from 2nd to 5th at 85 under full load...it grinds so bad you'd think it was trying to get into reverse...every time, without fail. After that, it feels like crap for the rest of the day...grinding into gears until it sits at least one night. Sucks - I hope that they end up replacing the tranny altogether, although I can see what will happen when I try to explain the problem and they tell me that I have to shift into 3rd from 2nd, and that shifting from 2nd to 5th under load is NOT supported...LOL

just a side note your gonna damage that trans. 5th gear is not built to take the load that third gear is supposed to take. i don't understand the theory of why you go from 2nd to 5th under full load. but i can tell you if you keep doing it you are gonna be replacing that or ANY trans.
I don't think he's going 1-2-5 at full throttle....Just trying to mind read here.

Ron, thanks - you nailed it bang on...and it's only because once I've done that 60-90 MPH pass, logic sets in and I have nightmarish visions of my ever-so-fleeting license in one hand and the judge's gavel in the other - denying me the right to drive, after they've seized my car, because I was caught doing 35 over the limit. LOL
In any case, when I do this in my Viper or any other car I drive, it shifts just fine with no grinding...
I should have been more clear, it's under full load until the end of 2nd, then relaxed as I (attempt to) shift into 5th...

From reading the various car mags I got the impression that the T6060 was developed for the Viper and GT500. Those heavy/high torque cars needed the higher torque rating. After that it made sense for Tremec to simplify their production by switching Corvettes to T6060 too instead of continuing with the T56.
