i bet most if not all z06 thefts are Z06's that have chrome wheels. Chrome draws the "G" factor/contingent. Glad i got comp greys

The list is rated by the cost of overall loss, not by the 'most desirable' cars stolen. Quote from the article: 'The Chevrolet Corvette Z06, a high-performance midsize sports car, isn't stolen nearly as often as the other vehicles on the worst list, but claims are expensive when the Z06 does go missing.'

I own a towing company and the key word is theft meaning most of the time the car is not taken but parts are stolen off of it. Most high end cars here are left on bricks. I have personally seen 2 vettes one regular 1 z06 sitting on bricks. The Z was in the owners parking garage with 2 boulders under it on the rockers with the car teetering.. I felt bad almost took it personal lucky I have 360's on my personal car so I grabbed my stock wheels put them on towed car to dealer where they set the car on stands until new wheels and tires came in. Most cars on that list here where I live are left on bricks.. The top stolen car here is any Chrysler products up to an 04 Jeeps, dodge caravans etc..thats when immobilizer keys were made standard. Just last sunday I got 4 dodge caravans that were stolen recovered and that was within 3 hours!

Someone help me understand, is this 1.7 theft claims per 1000 vehicles regardless of make/model or 1.7 per 1000 Z06s?!?! If it’s Z06s, can one surmise with roughly 26,000 Z06s on the road there were roughly 44 theft claims?
I thought the Z06 being hard to steal was a major reason why most of us enjoyed low insurance rates?

As some stated above, if you read this article carefully you will see that this list is NOT a lost of the most stolen cars but rather those with the highest CLAIM rate. That is, those whose claims result is the highest $$ amount. The Escalade is far from the most stolen vehicle (as is the Z06) but it has the highest insurance claim value. If you go to the vehicle theft statistics sites you will that the usual suspects are the top ten (no Z06s even close. This is the list for 2008:
Rank Year/make/model
1 1994 Honda Accord
2 1995 Honda Civic
3 1989 Toyota Camry
4 1997 Ford F-150 Pickup
5 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup
6 2000 Dodge Caravan
7 1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
8 1994 Acura Integra
9 1999 Ford Taurus
10 2002 Ford Explorer

But-but why, I cannot understand why.
Corvettes of any stripe have been a primary target of thieves for years.
C1s & C2s nearly a joke, almost too easy to steal.
C3 could be had by popping a roof panel latch using a strong blow with hand over latch. Remove panel & lift the whole car via cage into a waiting covered trailer etc. (aftermarket latch locks stopped this...)
For the C4 simply drill through the driver's side fender where the battery's located, into battery. Wait 'til battery drained & alarm wouldn't work. (an aftermarket steel box to hold battery stopped this...)
The C5s were harder to steal and C6s even harder; but, there isn't a thing on Earth that can't be stolen.

If a thief can steal a part of my Z or the entire Z before I can put a hole in his A** then he deserves the car more than me I guess.
(You can hide TRACKING DEVICES in you car in several locations for pretty cheap... and they can be traced via your laptop.) Go ahead.... cover up Onstar.
A good thief is a good thief ONLY until he picks the WRONG car to F with... then he finds himself in a cell for a LONG time.
