vararam, stat, tune on my z....here in tucson at 106 - 108 ambient i run 210 in stop and go....running at 45 and above i am usually 190 to 200... the vararam doesn't seem to bother my ride...once its under 100 outside my temps are much cooler....

the cooling fans are programmed to run after the ignition is off after a certain coolant temp...i believe the factory setting is for 30 seconds

My temps were somewhat under control until I bumped up the compression ratio by decking the heads. A combination of heads/cam and uncoated headers contributed quite a bit. The more power you make, the more heat you will generate.

Wind tunnel testing showed that it actually created lift. A lot of it.

Cruising over the weekend it was 93 degrees and extremely humid. I got caught in traffic and watched coolant on the DIC. It never moved off 181. Amazing.

Doesn't this piece help channel air to the front brake cooling ducts?

Don't think so. The cooling inlets are to the left and right of the center of the car.

Ok, so it doesn't cool the engine or cool the brakes.

Is it's function to generate front end lift?

Why is it there?

This makes sense as I've noticed the A/C being the primary heat driver. Without the air on in 90-100deg weather traffic I can stay under 200deg coolant and thats with a stock Z radiator and stock hood.

With the air on in the same traffic is when temps get up and over the 210 mark after 15mins or so.

I can see the DeWitts and WC hood dropping 15-20deg off what I see without the A/C on. But, that GM A/C system sure is nice!

This is purely my guess...... but in the stock configuration it makes sense in how it captures and channels the air into the 3 coolers there (oil cooler, radiator, condensor). Now when you had an intake such as the VR it blocks a large chunk of this channeled air so pulling this piece now gives you another area to pull air from.

For a month I was reading the boards and changing this changing that and never saw a significant change in temps. I pulled this black piece out and no more coolant or a/c issues.

When we start to talk about lift lets really be honest and think of how many people actually drive the car to the point to be concerned with lift? Either way according to Katech, which they obviously know what they are talking about, it actually creates MORE lift.

Is the air dam still on your car?

I believe it does aid in low speed cooling by creating a high pressure area in front of the car. There are also the two pieces on the side that would increase pressure in the brake duct inlet.

The Z06 is 100% front breather, so it does not channel air into the radiator, oil cooler or condenser directly. If I am correct and it does create a high pressure area in front of the car then it would increase air through the radiator by increasing pressure. Also, if the pressure behind the air dam is lower, it would decrease the pressure in the engine compartment and under the car, thus aiding exit airflow.

No. I have the undertray.

Seriously? I will take that thing off right now. Why the hell is it there in the first place?

No matter. At some point, all of that is getting covered by your undertray anyway.

See post #51 for further explanation of why it is there. By removing it you could have low speed cooling problems. We don't know. All we know is that our combinations have been tested and work.

I must have a problem then....

I reach 220 - 230 in 20mph traffic at 103 degrees....It takes quite awhile to go back down to 214 or so at 65mph..... I'm suspecting an air bubble or a bad Tstat? In cooler weather, below 200 is regular...

PS I am running a vararam, 160 Tstat and CoW tune

Your Vararam is stealing air from your radiator.

even at slow speeds? Others seem to have a VR and no similar problems...

Not arguing (cause my expertice is minimal) but I am confused...

Thanks

Yes, even at low speeds. Also, calibration will affect operating temperature. You should notify your tuner that you feel you're running hotter than normal. He may be able to make calibration adjustments for you that could help.

That is strange. I am seeing the same type of temps I am not running a vararam but I am supercharged. I have a 180 tstat and a CoW tune.

Wonder if Chucks tunes just run hotter. I bet he will chime in.

If you're supercharged then you have a big intercooler blocking the radiator. It's going to run hotter than an NA car without such obstruction.
