A few descriptions of the Z07 package have included references to "cooling upgrades". Until now I wasn't exactly sure what this meant (oil, coolant, both). In the latest issue of Corvette magazine, they have a big picture of a Z07 equipped Z06. Definitely does not look like the radiator on my 09 Z06. This thing looks like a monster, almost like an intercooler. What do you guys think? Definitely a new radiator? Any of the ZR1 guys recognize it?
I'd love to drop this part in once it's available, I prefer to modify with OEM parts if they actually make a difference.

Your post was of interest to me because you referred to the performance package as the Z07 package. With an intention to purchase, I have studied about the new 2011 Z06, and the L.E.
For at a minimum of 4 months or so the G.M. "Build your own site" referenced the Z07 Performance Package. I also read mag articles that stated same. However, suddenly, only one week ago the G.M. site was changed and it now refers to the Z06 Performance Package. WTF!
I pulled the trigger and will be picking up my new 2011 SS Z06 on November 6. It will include the performance package and carbon package. I have not been able to view it in person because it is 350 miles from my home. I will be interested to check out the new cooler component and report back once I get it home, providing I'm not arrested during the drive back, held too long, and can muster bail.

I can't tell you much about the radiator, but I do know that for 2011 LS7 engines use the same oil cooler as LS9.
This oil cooler looks like a pretty trick piece - bolts directly to the side of the oil pan and has coolant flow going through it. (Wish I had a photo for you - maybe someone does?) From what I hear this system works very well - a definite improvement.
Last April at the Birthday Bash there was in-depth coverage of the Z07 package, the carbon package, and the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition. Cooling system upgrades from the ZR1 were to be included in Z07. After several conflicting presentations, Q&A's arrived at a consensus that "Z06 Carbon Limited Edition" will get the carbon high-rise hood but a stock fiberglass roof, while Z06's ordered with the carbon package get a stock fiberglass hood and a carbon roof (with all carbon parts on the car painted black). The Carbon Limited Edition was to be available for ordering about 4 to 6 weeks after the regular 2011 Corvettes; that has proved to be incorrect. Further confusion was caused by GM providing a VY Z06 with Z07 and carbon packages for press tests, with many calling it a Z06 Carbon Edition.
The standard Z06 radiator has black plastic side tanks. ZR1s are all aluminum. So with the hood up it's easy to check which radiator is in a Z07 car (or whatever they're now calling the package).
"Z07" was a logical name for the package, with prior Corvette history. Maybe they want to save it for future use?
The radiator is all aluminum and is very similar to the ZR1 unit, eventhough it carries a different part number. Here are a couple pics of the radiator in the Z07 optioned car we have on the showroom currently.

Thanks for the info. What does "very similar" mean. Since it has a different part number, does this mean it does not have the same cooling capacity as the ZR1? Does it have greater cooling capacity that the stock Z06 radiator?

It does look to be thicker, just like the ZR1 radiator and made completely of aluminum without the usual side tanks.

I am only specualting, but I would assume the ZR1 radiator fits different because of the additional coolers and heat exchanger up front. The price is very close on both the Z07 and ZR1 radiators, so I am thinking it is a slightly different fitment in the ZR1. The next time I have one side by side, I can look at it closer.

GM retail is $2,250 and my forum price would be ~$1,550.
I would recommed an aftermarket aluminum for less then half of that. I purchased a aluminum rad from forum vendor "Steve@RSD" and could not be happier.
Thanks for the information guys. I was MIA on business for a few days. So it looks like both the oil cooler and radiator have been updated. Now I'm curious to see how these things perform vs. the standard units (oil & coolant temps. in similar conditions). It would be hard to justify that price for anything less than a 20 degree drop in temp (considering Dewitts will get you a solid 10 deg. drop for $600).
Soulcoaxing, congrats on the new purchase. Warm up those tires and have some fun with it!
GM did a good think by doing away with the plastic tanks on the ZR1 radiators, however they are still a single row 1" tube radiator. We sell a direct fit replacement with 2 rows 1" tubes for 1/2 the price. I will try to post some pictures soon.
