They are really tough if there is no handle.. Some people say you can use 2 vice grips, but I cheat and go to AUTOZONE. They will replace for no charge and the new batteries have a built in handle. If it's the original I will almost guarantee that's your problem.. Been there many times. Good luck!

I went with an Odyssey extreme battery. It's design is best in class

Buy or borrow a cheap battery lifting strap from auto parts store (it slips over the posts). If you buy a battery from them, the store may even lend you one.
Most new batteries have a built in handle, so replacement will be easy.

I bought my 08Z in 2018. The battery was a Delco. I thought it was original...but I found out it had already been changed 3x for PO who also happens to be owner of several GM dealerships. Once in 2010, 2013, and 2016 batteries...3 batteries over 8 years. It had always been kept on a float charge.
I bought a new battery in 2018 (not OEM) because the one from 2016 couldn't hold a charge. I kept it on float charge whenever unused more than a few day, but had to change it in summer of 2020.
I'm curious what this most recent one will be like when I wake the car from hibernation this weekend. Yes, its on float charge and my booster pack is ready, but this time I disconnected the battery....in case that somehow helps.
I've never owned a vehicle that is harder on batteries.
Especially one that isn't subjected to winter, etc. And my experience is consistent with what I'm reading here on the forum from other owners
I think it would be a miracle if the OP's battery has survived 14 years.
Having said that, the battery in my 2010 X3 beater is still the original and had no problem cranking at -35 this past winter. I'm astounded.
The one in my 09 Cayenne S was changed in 2015 and again last summer, 21...which i feel is 'normal' and consistent with previous cars.

I can't believe no one has suggested that it may be the battery in the fob that is dead. That would be the easiest and cheapest thing to try first. If changing the fob battery doesn't work, then it is definitely the car battery. Never heard of a fob needing to be reprogrammed, only if you get a brand new fob, that would need to be programmed. As far as removing the battery, if you have a couple of vice grips, that works good, just clamp one on each terminal and lift it out. Some people have also used duct tape to make a handle and attach it to each side of the battery.

Super easy to just move the trunk carpet all the way off of the battery and then lift it out. Adds 5 minutes to the process, but saves your knuckles and an awful lot of cursing.

Mine did the same thing after sitting for a while. To get the car to see the fob, I had to put it in the slot on the left side of the glove box to get the car to start. But I figured the fob battery was going dead when it wouldn’t lock or unlock the car. Replaced battery in fob and Good to go.
