Default Motor Mount Leak

Question 1 - Stock C6 Z06 LS7 mounts, 50k miles, is this a common problem? I originally suspected the oil pan gasket problem as the source of my leak, but I the pan looks clean. Drips seem to be coming down from my passenger side motor mount. The leaking fluid is brown and of a similar consistency to motor oil. Does everything add up to a leaky mount?

Question 2 - Assuming the mount is busted, how critical is it that I replace asap? Are there any bad side effects from driving around with a drained mount?

Question 3 - Anyone had any luck with the Hinson mounts? Seems like a good compromise between factory squish and the Pfadt option.

Thanks guys!

Maybe I am wrong, but I dont think there is any fluid of any type inside of your motor mounts...

I didn't think a leak from a motor mount was likely either, but have found a few threads on it... Here is one:

Some motor mounts use viscous fluid to dampen vibrations.

LS7 engine mounts have fluid in them. It does look like motor oil.

Thanks for confirming frc! I guess this is better than an oil pan leak, at least it gives me an excuse to get some better mounts. Now what else to do while I've got the car apart...?

Following up on this thread. Got the time to change the mounts today. Went with the poly replacements from Hinson.

Here is the culprit!

Busted Mount

Here is stock vs. the new Hinson mount.

Old vs. New

And here are a couple pictures that show what kind of clearances you need to swap the mounts.

Passenger Side

Driver Side

Job took about 5.5 hours from start to finish. Overall feel has slightly more NVH at idle, but very mild. I haven't had the chance to do any hard acceleration yet, but am looking forward to it!

I had the same problem. When I called around to get quotes for changing them I found out that they are covered under the 5 year / 100k mile powertrain warranty...that was a pleasant surprise.

Default Hinson Mounts

Please provide some feedback on how you feel about these mounts. I am about to order some new mounts and I want to decide what to go with. I do not want major vibration especially I have a fully build 427. Mild is fine with me.
