What is the warranty company called? I got my 3 year extended platinum from "Fidelity Warranty Services" for like $1,200, or maybe it was $1,500, I'd have to go back and look. But you can find the brochure online. It covers EVERYTHING, but the clutch parts apparently.

Very sorry to hear this and I hope the best for you and that carmax gets you that new crate motor.

As you mentioned, there have been reported failures on the LS7, but nobody knows just how wide-spread it is. The Z06 ownership on this board is only a fraction of the total Z06's produced. Even though your car is stock, many of the reported failures are from cars that have seen serious track duty, or that were modded heavily.

That's a risk we all take when buying the Car used (I bought mine used too) you don't know how the car was treated prior to your buying, or if it saw serious track time, or was modded and put back to stock, so it's hard to know.

Good luck with everything

It's not your 6th gear cruise that caused the cataustrophic failure, but something that happened previously that cuased the valvetrain to stress and wear. It just got worse overtime till your cruise home.

Sux and sorry to hear about your troubles, but buying a Z06 from CARMAX is not a smart idea. These cars last a long time even when getting raced but the person who had it before you knew the car was getting ready to blow. Thats why you have it , cause he knew better and beleive me CARSUX would never know this. Having said that CARMAX will not give you a dime..good luck

Sux, make sure they give you a new motor and not a motor out of a parts yard Z with unknown history.
Good luck.

Don't know if this helps or not, but if you do end up getting stuck with having to pay for it yourself it's possible to put together a fully rebuilt LS7 longblock for $5500 as that's how much it'll end up costing me for the spare motor I'm in the process of building.

Isn't a comprehensive claim on insurance if you blow a motor? I thought you could make a claim with them and just pay your deductible?
