Sell At Car Max?
Anyone tried to sell a Z06 at Car Max?
How did they price it compared to low Bluebook?
I have an 06 Z06 with only 8300 miles and it is pampered and perfect. Trade in Bluebook says $44500.
Could I hope for that?
Much less?
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks

You are even less likely at Carmax. They will offer you at least 8k under book value and I think I'm being generous. Be patient if you can and sell to an individual because your price is in the ball park for what someone will pay.

They will use auction prices to price your car. Find out what the wholesalers are paying and that is what they are going to offer you. Throw KBB, Edmunds, Black Book, etc. out the window......nobody uses that info anymore on trades; at least that has been my experience.

I needed to sell the 06Z to make room for the new ZR1 last January. After weeks of trying to sell privately with no luck, both CarMax and Texas Direct Auto made identical buy offers at thousands below trade-in. Bad time of the year + bad economy. Some of my big savings ordering the ZR1 got offset by the hit I took selling the Z06.

Remember dealers are called 'dealer' for a reason, they buy low-sell high.
You're MUCH better off advertising your pristine '06 Z here, or whatever online venue (like Craig's List) you're familiar with. Maybe even the local dead tree fishwrap, if one's still in buisness. Your call.
Your car is actively sought after by a good number of people and if it's half as clean as you claim you stand to get better than wholesale book.

They gave me the high end on KBB when I traded my 2006 IS350 Lexus in. It was 2.5 years old and had 75K miles, and I did not buy from them. That said, a Z06 is a different story.

Just selling 'outright', I would think they'll 'lowball you. They shoot for the biggest margin they think they can get.
Like others have said, try to sell it it on every place/site you can. Have GOOD pics for people to see. Use 'National' sites as well. Never know, that buyer in Kentucky might want your car in Pa.....(jus example)....
good luck

try autotrader trade in here. I think you will fare much better. I took my 02 z06 to carmax, just to see what they would say and because I bought it from them a year earlier. Well, they offered me $16k for an 02 in good shape with ~53k on the clock. I bought it a year earlier for 23k. I was about to smack the appraiser for the insulting offer. 3 weeks later I went onto autotrader and checked out the trade in offer and it was $19.2k ended up selling to them for 18.9k.
Oh, and btw, I have pictures of my car at carmax with 3 of the 4 lift arms jacking the car up on the rocker panel.
Long story short, just stay the F*** away from carmax.

Around November last year a guy I knew sold his 06 DSOM Z with 30,000 miles to Carmax. They gave him 33k for it and sold it for 39k.

To the poster, post your car for sale on Craigslist (biggest city near you) as Craigslist gets cars sold, trust me when I tell you that. Also post up for sale here.
A realistic sell price for your car that you should be able to get for it is around $42 to $43K. Car max and other dealers will offer you $35K if your lucky!

Back in 04 I bought an Evo 8 MR and got it at invoice ( $34868) when dealer had them at $40+. After 5000 miles and 4 month I realized I hated it and took it by carmax for a quote-They offered me $19K and tried to sell me something from there parking lot...lol
I sold it the next week private for 30K....

Wow what was your reaction when they showed you the appraisal for $19K. I would have laughed hysterically at their face. What a joke they are but there's a reason they're still in business -- ... fool and his money will soon part...

I wouldn'tnmind taking a couple thousand below trade in,but I'll save the hour and a half round trip if they are going to be that cheap.
My biggest concern was the comment about putting it on the rack wrong.
I sure don't want to sell it damaged.
Thanks for all the input.
My neighbor is a manager at a Chevy dealer. If it's going to go cheap, I rather let him have take it at some rock bottom price.
Thx

I sold my cobra to Carmax.. Overall it was a great experience. Didn't want to deal with the hassle of haggling with tire kickers and reconditioning.
I was in and out in about 10 minutes with a check.
You should expect to receive black book value w/ some local market adjustment.

I've taken two cars to carmax for apprisals (2009 GT500 and 2007
ZO6) and both offers were lower than blue book. Keep in mind they reduce their offer if the car isn't stock. I was able to get more on my GT500 when I took it to Texas Direct Auto.
Good Luck
