Default 500* degree paint good for mufflers?

Just modded my mufflers and want to hit them with some flat black spray paint, will 500 degree do ok or should I get a higher temp paint?

I would go with header paint just to be sure.

If you're going to paint the primaries, you'll want *VHT (very high temp) paint. Good stuff is made by Sperex (called VHT.)

I'd personally remove the headers and get them ceramic coated though.

* 1200F coating.

i just painted the hats on my rotors with some 2000* high heat stuff, probably meant for headers. The paint comes out flat black, so i also got the 2000* clearcoat to spray over to give it a nice gloss finish. i know that 2000* was overkill, but i dont like having to do things twice for cutting corners.

Another good option is the flat black spray paint from Rust-Oleum "High Heat" specialty paint for charcoal grills and wood stoves.

It is rated to 1200F and you can find it at Lowes or Home Depot.

The flat black looks like OEM too IMO.

This is what I did over a year ago and the paint looks like the day I painted it.
