Default Oil Plug Seals

Is it really necessary to replace the 2 oil plug seals during a Z06 oil change ?

Unless they are damaged, no.

Thanks. When I told the dealer I was doing my own oil change they expressed shock and said it was complicated and there was more than oil and filter that had to be replaced.

Yes, you have to remember to replace both oil pan drain plugs and also put in the right amount of oil for the MY Z06 that you have. I understand not all Chevy dealers can handle that complex process. (yes, you have to get it up in the air somehow and back down, except for one poster here that does it all with the car on the ground!)

40,000 miles and over 15 oil changes with same drain plug seals. No leaks.

It probably wouldn't hurt to replace those rubber seals (there is a separate GM part number for them) every five changes or so just to be on the safe side as a good practice. Time and temperature will eventually degrade the rubber. You wouldn't be happy to do an oil change and later find the plugs seeping oil.

hate to dredge up an old thread, but what is the part number for the oil plug seals?

EDIT: is this it? 14090908 - Gasket - Engine Oil Pan Drain Plug Seal

My drain plugs are seeping. The front sump line too. Not bad just develops an about to drip. Never hits the floor, just gets a small amount of oil in a couple of spots.
