MSD Starter. Anyone tried?
Has anyone used the high torque MSD starter for the LSX series? Does it work on an LS7? Is it good or a POS?
Also does anyone make a starter heat shield for the LS7 I think my headers are cooking my current one...

Not yet, it's still not installed on my Z06.
But a friend of mine in the Netherlands, who also owns a Z06 (2007) with American Racing headers, reported an issue to me: the starter touches one of the primary tubes.
Let's hope that I have a little more luck, I have Melrose headers.

I wuld be interested to see if the MSD one is any lighter than stock. Also the MSD can be rotated to move away from header - I think they have a few choices.

I hope it does the trick.

I just cooked a starter chasing a ZR1 on weekend long country road rally. I've had headers for years but I knew it was slowly cooking as it started taking longer to turn over then finally just a click. Went with a new OEM starter at the dealer then got a DEI wrap from Jegs or summit (can't remember) for $30 and then DEI heat wrap tape for all the power lead wires into starter, the o2s, the lower ac lines and such for $20. Car is protected like a space shuttle now for $50.

I'm concerned about the same thing, and will probably go the same route as you with my starter.
Would you have to drop the header just to put on the the shield?

I ordered the msd 5096. It doesn't fit the stock c6 z06. Trust me. It didn't fit.
