Testing is done and the filing numbers are finally back from the Gov (for the provisional patents) on a new hand held device we have been working on. Thought I would share…
Its called P.O.M (Peace of Mind). Its a hand held device that allows you to download 2 modes/programs, a Parental mode and a Valet.

The Parental mode
This will stop a vehicle from going over a predetermined speed (that you set).
Perfect for when your son or daughter say "dad can I have the keys to the Vette..."
The device prevents the vehicle from also going beyond a fixed RPM, so both, the MPH and the RPM are set to prevent racing/excessive speeding. To accommodate most of the speed limits across the US, we are going to have 2 speed/mph settings. One will be 75. The other 85.
Different settings can be made for an additional fee

The second Mode is a Valet.
This allows you to hand your keys over to the valet with confidence without having that Ferris Bueller moment popping into your head.
Once again the car would be set to go no faster then 20mph. Enough to park the car.
A sign P.O.M EQUIPPED” (with an explanation) will be displayed to let this knuckle head know to move onto the next car...

So does the hand held device get plugged into the OBD port like a Window Valet and remain there? Or is it more like a hand held tuner which flashes the PCM with these changes? Or is a stand alone device that's incorporated in some other manner?

Its a small hand held which plugs into the OBD, but just to load then you remove (like a tuner).

Okay next question. After uploading this through the ODB port I can only assume it's making a change to the PCM. Rammifications would be the same as a performance tune if found by the dealership when requesting warranty repair service?

We are planning on picking this up from TKO to sell, and I can answer some questions about. Ed is unable to answer right now because of the aftermath of Sandy he has no internet service.

That a good question, and I am not sure. When you go to the dealer you would have your stock calibration in the car. I will have to try one and see if the part numbers and checksums come back as factory. The real question was if it kills the warranty, according to the Magnuson-Moss act the actual aftermarket part has to cause the damage or else the factory warranty is still in effect. I am sure a dealership service dept will tell you different, but when pressed GM will warranty as long as what ever the aftermarket part is not accountable for the damaged part.

Thats a neat product. I wish our cars came with this factory like the original ZR1 did. I am always afraid to leave my car with anybody cause I know they will want to joyride it. Maybe I will pick one of these up for myself as a Christmas gift.

Will this erase aftermarket tunes? Can you set it to disallow disabling of driver aids? Can you use it to limit RPM in neutral?

A lot of people who would be interested in this have heavily modded cars. And you can still get into a lot of trouble under 75mph. I'd be interested in a throttle stop, keeping someone from using more than 50% throttle. That, and I certainly don't want some idiot cold revving the **** out of my car, especially if it's FI or cammed.

The parental mode only goes to 3500 rpm. Valet is obviously much lower.
