Default daily driven c6 z06 and average maintenance/repair cost...

hello from europe
My ex car is bmw m3 e36 (euro model 300hp with now 120000 miles) and think about c6 z06. I daily drive my m3 and spend some money on maintenace. Some of parts cost big money.
Example include work in last 40.000 miles:
Vanos failure 1300$, radiator 300$, more set tires 700$ per set, clutch+flywheel 1000$, shock+springs 700$, oil service 200$ every 3000 miles, fuel pump 200$, consumption in the city 15mpg - open road 21mpg, valve adjustment 200$, other miscellaneous components 1000$.......

If someone daily drive his c6 z06, please write your repair and service cost, mpg across time, write about some well know manufacturer defects. This will really help me. thanks I know EVERY bad point about m3 e36 but z06 is new to me.

60 miles a day round trip, no issues, 42K on the clock now.
Tires are expensive
Fuel mileage is in the high 20's (usually 26 -28 MPG on average) If I could learn to ease off of the gas I would get better. This car has aged me badly since I now have smile wrinkles around my eyes.

I've got a 2008 C6Z that I bought new. As has been said, tires are expensive. I'm on my third set of rears and second set of fronts. Car has 46k miles. My car came on the Goodyear EMT but I switched to Michelin Pilot Sports and won't go back to the Goodyears. Michelin Pilot run flats are currently about $2,000 for a set of 4. I just had a complete brake job - new rotors & pads and it was $1,200 for those parts. Oil changes are 7qts Mobil 1 @ whatever the going rate is. If you have a dealer do it, it'll be a couple hundred dollars including labor.

I don't 'daily' drive mine as I have a 90-mile round-trip commute so I only drive it 2-3 times a week spring/summer/fall. It has been a fairly trouble-free experience. I had a base C6 for two years prior to the C6Z and that car only cost me oil changes. Never put tires, brakes or anything else on that thing and it had 21k miles when I sold it. Vettes make great daily drivers, even the Z06.

Other than the head issue that you may have read about you are looking at lower maintenance costs.

Figure an oil change every 6000 to 10K miles depending on how you drive the car. An oil change will run you about $100 if you live someplace where the labor rates aren't out of sight. The Oil Life Monitor (OLM) is a great tool and really cuts down on how often you change the oil. If you don't drive far you will be changing it once per year. Coolant changes every 5 years. Radiator shouldn't be any big issue. Shocks will run about $450 for special tuned aftermarket Bilsteins. No such thing as a valve adjustment or timing belt. Clutch will set you back about $1500+ due to the drive train layout. The Clutch's are pretty tough. I still have the original in my car and it has had a lot of abuse getting the car on the trailer (especially when somebody is helping), two teenage drivers learning how to drive a manual tranny car (clutch got burned pretty bad several times with them driving).

City driving will see about 16 mph while highway driving at 70 in 6th you will see as much as 32 depending on the tires you have on the vehicle. If you want to use run flats Michelins will run you around $2300 plus installation. Other than the valve issue in the LS7 the car would be considered very reliable. Other LS engines give plenty of reliable service even when run hard time after time. There are aftermarket kits to install LS engines in BMWs because they provide more reliable power in a smaller package and usually weigh about the same and sometimes weigh less.

I do a lot of instructing on Road Courses so am a member of the BMW Club and run a lot of their events.

Depends on your commute and how you drive.

I daily drove a 06 Z51 and a 08 Z06 for a few years....this is what I can tell you about the Z.

My drive was about 40 miles a day both ways in town. I would average between 17-19 mpg depending on stoplights and traffic. I did oil changes every 5k with Redline engine oil and after the stock GoodYears died I went to Michelin's. Tires (for me) would last 28-32k miles. Plugs and shocks at 50k. I did pads and rotors at 30k. Other than mods I did to it, that was really the only things I went through. I sold the car with almost 70k on it, and had I kept it...the guide fix on the heads was the next thing I was going to do.

So
Fuel $1500/year at $2.59/gallon
Oil changes (do them yourself) $240/year
Budget $2200 for tires every 2-3 years...depending on how you drive
Approx $900 for brakes every 2-3 years....depending on how you drive
$400 for shocks if you do them yourself around 4-5 year mark

Not horrible...but it is going to depend on how you drive. You could go through a set of tires a month if you try hard enough.

I can't believe you guys daily drive these cars. My '06 Z is probably one of the least comfortable cars I've owned for anything more than a short trip. I have a 100 mile round trip commute and I'll drive the car about once a week if it's dry out. Maybe my old age (32) is showing and ultra-plush daily driver ('12 Mazda 3) is spoiling me though...

Daily driving won't be too expensive except for tires. The oil changes will cost you about the same unless you start doing them yourself.

Wow, Is my take different from yours? I would daily drive mine, but I really don't want to put all of the miles on it. I do drive it in to work some days when the weather is pretty. My daily drive is 66 miles round trip, and the traffic is generally pretty brutal on the way home. My normal daily driver is a BMW335i sedan, but given a free choice I would rather drive my Z06 than the BMW. My Corvette is somewhat modified, having a cam and a tune. The cam is 228/248 with 9 degrees of overlap. My car does not have LT headers.

I have driven my Z06 on extended trips. 1100 miles home from my Corvette Museum delivery and 4000 miles on a trip from Texas to Colorado to California and back to Texas, and travelling long distances is not a problem. On the road, the C6Z06 is so much more comfortable than my C5Z06, which I took on even longer trips. Of course I am only 64. Maybe I will feel the same as you when I get older...

Don't get me wrong, I love driving the car and I can't wait to drive it any chance I get. My car has a cam with 12 degrees of overlap and a chattery McLeod clutch, just find an apprecation for my other cars after driving it. Maybe if the seats were more comfortable...

When I lived in AR where there was no real winter, my Z06 was my year round daily driver - 30 mi/day. It never needed anything but gas, oil changes and tires. After moving to WI, I have to put it away for winter (snow+salt=) so it is only a DD for maybe half of the year - 15mi/day. Same thing... gas, oil changes, tires.

I've done a few 600-1000 mile one-way treks with it and had no trouble, either. In stock form, it is quite docile and comfortable. It can just as easily be idling along in traffic as it can be running hard, stretching its legs on the open road or hitting mountain roads.
