Thanks all and I am enjoying the conversation. 173 sounds pretty impressive in the standing mile.

I think the tires concern me most at those speeds...

Well the Michelin PSS are great tires with excellent grip, a (Y) speed rating and are XL load rated. They keep the runway as clean as it is reasonably possible to do and they have the safety equipment there. You are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of your car (or a trusted mechanic is).

After that it is a personal decision as to what risk you are willing to accept. I was very comfortable in that environment and the stock Z06 was an amazingly competent platform, stable right up to top speed. It's kind of neat covering the last half-mile in 9 seconds (in the `1 1/2 mile event).

Mine is stable at that speed. Going 180+ threw a corner hitting bumps over a bridge is a different story

I have an almost new set of y rated tires on the car, I am however in Tenn. so the west coast is too far for me. I did not know about the 1 1/2 mile events. I wonder if anyone has those events anywhere around here?

There's a half mile event in North Ga, September 14th and 15th.... It's not 1.5 miles, but it's still half mile drag racing on an airport. I'll be there both days

Stock Z06 should be in the 150-155 MPH range in the 1/2. I did my 4-5 shift at 162 at about 5/8 mile

Not at 3k elevation... I did it last year and ran 151 over and over. Intake, exhaust, and tune is all I had.

All my runs at 1 mile and 1 1/2 mile were at 3000' DA or more, actual elevation was 2738' and hitting 162-164 at about the 5/8 mile point - stock Z06.

Your 151 seems consistent with my guess of 150-155, doesn't it?
