I have a 2002 C5 Z06 with 80,000 miles and am looking into buying a C6 Z06 I test drove one last week and the valves were quite noisy. After reading this post it looks like I need to see some proof the guides have been replaced or request it be done before I buy the car. It is a 2008 with 59,500 miles.
I just started to look here in the C6 Z06 section to get as much information I can before I buy.

In 8 years of production of the C6 Z06 approx 29,409 were delivered.


To determine if there is a built in problem with the LS7 from statistical analysis the numbers are just too hard to verify because only non-modified LS7 can be considered so net number of stock LS7 might be 20,000??
Plus There are 3 categories of driven Z06's however there is no way to determine how many in each category have had LS7 problems. But if we could maybe the numbers of problem LS7's would be:

1. Garage Queen less than 6k miles per year = 13,400 , problems 5

2. Daily Driver - driven 20k miles per year plus = 5000, problems 2

3. Beat the hell out of it- miles not the issue = 1600, Problems 200

Totals might be 1% of the stock . ???

All the above are pure BS except for production numbers, but it does give us a picture as to how hard it is to determine what the heck might be going on????
Too many Z06 are not driven enough to help with the stats? Too many are modified and so can not be counted, plus we have a high number of cars that are beat to hell.

My suggestion is drive your car and enjoy it- if worry has got you then buy an extended warrantee, but drive the car

For a different opinion, some of us do not consider we "Beat the hell" our of a performance car if we wait until the oil is at least 150* before we go to full throttle periodically, run the engine to near redline, change oil when the DIC says 50% life remaining and do some HPDE events. In other words, Chevy says the car will do whatever and we use the car within those stated performance parameters.

Others consider it beat on if you use full throttle or take the engine over 5000 rpm.

I don't believe you can automatically not consider non-modified cars in the analysis. Just because they were modified doesn't mean that they were delivered to the customer from GM with a perfect engine and only the modifications caused the engine failure.

Modifications MIGHT cause an accelerated rate of engine failure, but not necessarily be the reason for the failure.

Can someone explain to me how any "mod" other than a cam or different ratio rocker arm or can effect valve guide wear??

Bought my 08 in nov. of 2008. It now has 36,000+ with no problems. It has bolt ons and a tune, with 345 Michelins on the rear. I live in the mts. of western N.C. with lots of great roads to enjoy the tremendous suspension on my Z. I've owned a lot of very fast vettes since I bought my first one in Jan.1970 and this is the greatest car I've ever owned.

2007 Z06 purchased March 2012, 14K miles. Came w/ LT headers, Corsa Exhaust, Texas Speed cam kit, MSD coils, tune etc.

Performed OK, only problem some detonation over entire RPM range which was probably a bad tune from cam install.

Because of the huge amount of info on this forum I had new aftermarket heads from Texas Speed installed along with CompCams trunion upgrade and a new tune for 91 octane - now 540 RWHP, no ping, runs REALLY well !

Also ALL new fluids, steel braided brake lines and new '09 Z06 black chrome wheels w/ Michelin PSS (285/18 & 345/19)

500 mile oil change after the head swap - now at 17K running great, everything perfect !!!

06 with 25,000 miles. Intake and a tune and it runs great. Planning on heads but saving for a wedding so some priorities are in order.

I have not had engine trouble with 2011 Z06 and have 25,000 .. am not sure but think this motor made Feb 2011 right at time they found out about head problem... But today was out and running through the gears and went to hit some golf ***** and when I got to range Dexron all over the rear end ..and fluid under trans area r/e area ..am afraid to drive any more and have it towed tomorrow..I think it has lost pints at least...cap ? 4 ?6 Active handling has been really shitty lately so bad I just turn it off.. it would come on abruptly sometimes when only on paint strips.. Cup 2 on the rear and they have gone away in less than 5,000 .. shitty not like the prior one ...I don't take it off the line but am agressive coming around or out of the turns... It's been squirlly lately and I was blaming the tires .. ???
